With the increased amount of commenting we’ve had lately, Bug Eater and I were talking about adding in a message board/forum.

What do you guys prefer? Would you used the message board or does keeping the conversation inline with comments the way things have been going work for you.

We see some upside to the message board in that it gives everyone a chance to contribute outside of our blog posts and the comments, but then again, there are also a few Husker message boards that already have large followings.

Help build a better Huskerzone.com and sound off in the comments. You also send any other improvement ideas/comments/criticisms to me directly by email at huskers {at} huskerzone {dot} com.

I’m going High Definition this week. Call me whatever names you wish for being a slow adopter.

With Cox’s ongoing battle with KETV (Omaha’s ABC affiliate), do any experienced HDTVers out their have any tips as to what I need to get the digital signal from the antenna? According to my set’s specs:

The set’s built-in ATSC (DTV) tuner pulls HD signals (480p/720p/1080i) right from the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming.

Since I have the ATSC tuner, am I okay with simple rabbit ears or do I need something else more advanced? I’m in the Millard area if it makes a difference.

Feel free to post any answers or comments via the Comments link. Thanks in advance.

It’s amazing what you can find on Craigslist.

Are you a Bobcats fan who wants to start career in sports journalism?

Are you a sports fan who loves basketball and the Bobcats, and want to write about your favorite team? We are a sports website that averages over 325,000 hits a day, and are looking for someone to take over our Charlotte Bobcats coverage.

While this is not a paid position, we do offer the chance for you to receive 50% of all the ad revenue run on your site. Ultimately, the compensation we offer is that which comes from the exposure you will receive as a part of our team.

If you are interested, please send a writing sample to the e-mail address above.

Maybe this is Sports Blog Nation, or another upstart sports blog network.

Knowing the publisher of this site like I do, I’m willing to bet he’d offer the same revenue split with enterprising UNL journalism students. It’s all about building an audience. In the end, the media team that does that best will have plenty of ad revenue to divvy up.

We’re looking for some help.

Between Bugeater, Steve G, and myself we pretty much have coverage on all aspects of Husker sports with the exception of basketball. If any of our loyal readers would be interested in contributing a paragraph or two on a semi-regular basis, we want to talk to you. If you currently have blog or examples of your writing, please include URLs.

Email: huskers [at] huskerzone [dot] com

Note: This is a volunteer effort at this point but there may be some revenue opportunities down the road.

From the AP Wire:

Solich convicted of drunken driving.

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio coach Frank Solich was convicted of drunken driving Monday, two days after police spotted him slumped over the wheel of his vehicle.

Solich, in his first season with the Bobcats, pleaded no contest and was ordered to complete a three-day driver intervention program. He also had his license suspended for 180 days and was fined $250.

The former Nebraska coach apologized in court. He declined to comment afterward.

The university, in a statement released before his court appearance, said Solich would remain in charge of the Bobcats as it monitored the case.

Solich, 61, appeared to be passed out when police found him Saturday night in the vehicle, which was facing the wrong direction on a one-way street and in drive, according to a police report.

“I know Frank as a man of impeccable integrity, and I am confident that he will respond to this situation in a positive manner and use these circumstances to better teach others, including his players, the importance of making wise decisions,” Ohio athletic director Kirby Hocutt said in the statement.

The Bobcats were 4-7 in their first year under Solich, who grew up in Ohio.

Solich was 58-19 in six seasons as Nebraska’s coach before being fired after the 2003 regular season.

The details are set for the Husker’s ticket lottery.

Nebraska’s first game will be Friday at 6:05 pm. General Admission seats will be able to start lining up at 12:01 am on Friday (18 hours before first pitch). To avoid confusion, there will be two lines, one for the early game and one for the Nebraska game - attendants will be on-hand to direct folks to the proper line. Friday is a two-session day, which means the stadium will be completely cleared between games so trying to cheat your way in won’t work.

For the approximately 1,000 tickets which will go on sale Friday morning, a lottery system will be used. This is the standard concert-type lottery where one number will be chosen and tickets will sell from that number on. Numbers will be handed out starting at 7:30 am with the winning number drawn approximately at 8:40 am. Each person in line after the winning number will be able to buy 4 seats, payable by cash or check only. No credit cards will be accepted. Please note that the parking area will still be closed off for permitted vehicles only, so it is recommended that you arrive slightly early to find a spot and get to the ticket window to obtain your lottery number.

Sunday’s lottery will likely follow the same schedule unless the situation is problematic on Friday. In which case their will be some revisions to the process.

A HuskerZone.com advisory to those already holding tickets. If you attended any of the Creighton/Nebraska games at Rosenblatt the past couple of years you already know to arrive at least an hour early in order to get in before first pitch. For the Husker’s CWS game, we highly recommend getting there at least 2-3 hours prior. This game has the makings of the highest attendance game in CWS history and combined with a end-of-rush-hour gametime, traffic will be a mess. If you are holding one of the coveted Parking Permits, remember that it does not guarantee a parking spot. The lot will likely be full as early as 10:00 am if not sooner.
