Offense Slows In Tough 55-51 Loss
First Half:
Lack of offense has hurt the Huskers during the first half as they have scored only 22 points in 20 minutes. Alecs Maric and Cookie Miller pace the Huskers at 6 apiece going a combined 5-8. The problem is the rest of the Huskers are 3-15, but the lone bright spot is the play of Sek Henry. His athleticism has kept Nebraska within shot, but someone else needs to step up.
Taking a play from my pagebook Colorado is shooting 3’s at will against NU’s porous three point defense. Lucky for Nebraska they have only hit 4-13. If they get hot, say hello to 0-2 in the conference.
Nebraska needs offense, and I say get the ball to Sek. He has enough energy to carry this team tonight………….
GO BIG RED
COLORADO 55 Nebraska 51
Yeah, what was I thinking when I said this team will go 10-6? Offense, offense, offense…….where’s the offense? Cookie Miller had an excellent night going 4-8 from 3 land and finishing with 18 points. Maric, who looked tired and worn down at the end, finished with 14. The huskers finished 16-47 from the field, but Maric and Miller were 11-19 and what you have left is 5-28 FG’s made. Harley……. 0-5, Strowbridge……..0-6, Anderson……1-6, Dagunduro…….1-3. The good thing was Sek Henry. He was very energetic and looking to slash to the basket early and often. He finished with 7 points on 2 for 3 shooting. Henry had something about him tonight that I think the Huskers should have tapped into. He was the only one out there, besides Miller, that looked like they weren’t going to fall asleep while running.
Once again offense has eluded the Huskers, but just like the KU game, every time a Husker took a shot, there were 5 Buffaloes there to get the rebound. Our defense kept us in the game and NU was only down 2 with 5 seconds left in regulation, but just couldn’t overcome a poor shooting night on the road.
Rebounding, scoring, and wearing down are my main concerns after this game. Oh and why the heck was Anderson guarding Richard Roby on CU’s last possession? Everyone knows that RA is not the fleetest of feet, and you could tell what Roby was going to do when everyone cleared out of the lane. Our guys looked like the Miami D from 94′ in the 4th quarter. With their hands on their hips and breathing very deeply, Maric in particular, looked like he was on empty after about the third quarter and this is only their 3 game in 2 1/2 weeks, which might be the problem. It’s a long road ahead and Nebraska has not had consistent play from anyone this year. Ryan Anderson had a decent year as a Freshman last season, but should be scoring in double digits every game as a sophomore. Sek Henry has lot’s of energy and should be slashing to the basket and making plays with his quickness more often.
It’s time to work that offense Doc, but I’m not counting them out just yet. This team has heart and doesn’t quit, their shot will come back to them and that will ease up the defensive pressure they have been put under lately. If it doesn’t come back soon, they could very well start the conference season 0-5 with Baylor at home next, then down to KU, and over to Missouri……….well looking at the schedule they could very well be 0-16 with an offense like they had tonight.

I don’t know about you guys, but if I have to hear the CU fight song one more time, I’m gonna puke and punch my T.V.
January 15th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Well damn, now I have to move my post!
January 15th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
1st half = pathetic
pathetic = CU fans holding banner of football score

N.I.T!!!! N.I.T!!!! N.I.T!!!!
The quest to be the 66th best team in America.

Season over. I said 10-6 was way to optimistic and 8-8 was a more realistic. Well I was wrong as well. 0-5 start to the conference and a 4-12 or 5-11 final record.
January 15th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Count, agreed, but you can’t say 10-6 is way too optimistic and come with 8-8. It’s just not that much differenct IMO. But I do agree 10-6 looks like a stretch now. Our guards gotta step it up and start hitting some shots, period. If someone is hot tonight like Sek, feed him the damn ball.

I just don’t see who this team can beat on the road. How huge is the game Saturday? And the home game with Baylor is far from a guarantee. In other news…Sweet Lord do I hate Creighton.
January 15th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Baylor is a must win game, but they are not the NCAA probation Baylor of a few years past. 14-2 and 2-0 looks pretty good to me. Wins over Iowa St and Okie State to start off conference play and their 2 losses are by a combined 10 points. Should be tough, even tougher without an offense.
Yes we know you hate Creighton, so you at least got that going for yourself.
January 15th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
I think this game has confirmed for me that NU has an irrational fear of any CU sports team, no matter how much better NU is. I hope Pelini can change that.

I did learn one from this game. Cox cable makes durable remotes. I smashed mine pretty good against the wall. after I snapped it back together it still worked.
January 16th, 2008 at 7:02 am
did you start yelling “thank god for Cox”
January 16th, 2008 at 10:32 am
I was also smashed against a wall. Thank Gawd for good dentists.
January 16th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
If you pull your teeth out to throw them at the wall when you get upset……you might be a redneck!
Glad you are all right BBDs.

Brad, Count, thanks for getting me excited about NU basketball! You would’ve thought I had enough disapointment for one year, but no.
I’m kidding of course. No way that team goes 0-16 in the conference. C’mon where’s the optimism you had after the Oregon win? Same team, right? They’ll turn this thing around.
January 16th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
I am still optimistic…read the post…..I was just stating if they played like they did last night against a horrible CU team, they have a shot. I still love em’!
January 17th, 2008 at 9:12 am
We know you do Brad. Let me ask you this though, what can a coach seriously do about poor shooting? I am not asking to be a smart-ass, but beause I honestly don’t know.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:25 am
what we do in practice is catch and shoot. For everyone they miss, we make them run. Missing stops pretty quickly. Another thing they can do is take pressured shots in practice. It’s one thing to hit the open J but another thing to do it while someone is on you.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:30 am
And RD it’s all about rhythm. NU seems to be moving around ALOT on offense and then they are expected to pressure of D. I did comment how they looked spent towards the end of the game. If you are constantly running around like a crazed animal, you can get out of this rhythm fairly quickly. I would slow it down….have some set plays where is mainly passing and minimal movement, almost like a zone offense if you will.
January 17th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Thanks. Gives me something to look for next time they are on.
January 17th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
We also have two Freshman sitting on the bench that Doc has been quoted saying “These two guys could play now and improve this team”
I say pull the shirts and get um in there them. You have another horrible year and they won’t be able to give away tickets next year.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Let’s not forget how short term memory this society is nowadays……winning trumps everything, everytime. He has to redshirt them because of the horrible state of the BB program when he got it. Maric is the only senior. If it weren’t for him pulling in some JUCO guys, there would not be any scholarship seniors next year…and so on.. He had to even out the classes or come every 3 years you’d be screwed and have to sign a huge class to make up for lack of yearly depth. I respect him for sitting them…it shows the program is larger than him..that he will do everything right even if it costs him wins. Wins are going to come and when it does…..there will be tons of room for people to jump on the bandwaggon.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
I was offered a chance to go to the game Saturday but with temperatures forecasted to be down around your average Creighton fans IQ I decided I would rather sit in front of my tube and watch it.
January 18th, 2008 at 9:20 am
That’s funny Count! You didn’t miss much, like I said the hightlight was seeing Carl Pelini throw the bones to the crowd. After NU went in a tailspin when they were only down 3…..23-20, It was all down hill from there. My excitement came in the form of the KU fan sitting in front of Dizzturbed and I. She looked like she was about 12 months pregnant and she told us she had a dream she had the baby at the game. I told her, I was glad she was below us.
January 18th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
I meant this Saturday’s game against Baylor
January 18th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
@ Brad… Now THAT would have been a halftime show!
January 18th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Maybe they should play the game this weekend outside, Basketball in 10 below zero temps. Should be a little to our advantage.
@RD, the best part was when she started eating his nacho’s. Come on lady! Don’t mess with HB’s nacho’s! Now I know why they call them crazy pregnant ladies!
January 18th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
@RD
It would’ve been better than the guy that could lick his own ass….that dude was just raunchy!!!!
January 18th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
LOL, You gave her your nachos? Talk about an ambassador!
As far as the licking goes, it doesn’t impress me when my dog does it, seeing a human do it would, I’m guessing, make me puke.
January 19th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
The lady I shared my nachos with had her baby Friday morning in the parking garage of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln. Her ordeal was shown on Omaha’s KETV channel 7 news at 10 tonight. Here is the link.

Thank you, cause I really don’t know what I’d done if she dropped her draws and said help me!!! I think I will send her a card and some nachos! Small world, huh?
January 21st, 2008 at 3:53 am
Good for her. Yeah, you catching a pass like THAT would’ve been a helluva way to make the highlight reel.
January 21st, 2008 at 6:59 am
that’s just sick. I would’ve fumbled it.
