We Want The Right Players According to Pelini, Not Rivals.com
The Lincoln Journal Star is running an article, published today, on recruiting.
Bo Pelini has been Nebraska’s coach for just 22 days now, but he’s already found his first challenge. Last week, over a two-day period, the Huskers were hit with five decommitments. By week’s end, NU was down to 15 oral commitments.
Seeing that Nebraska is in transition, other schools have been quick to raid NU’s cabinet, with Colorado leading the chase. The Buffs could potentially end up with four players who were once committed to the Huskers, which in part explains the recent dose of hysteria gripping some Nebraska fans.
Hysteria? I don’t get it. If players aren’t totally obsessed about playing football for Nebraska, then why would we want them here?
Who knows what kind of weak pitches Loserhan made these kids who stepped off. The kind of kid who wants to play for Pelini is a tough kid. I’m sure some toughs would have come in under Loserhan (it’s the nature of football, after all), but I’m also confident some prima donnas would have come in, and there’s no room for that in Lincoln. In fact, if there are any attitude problems on the roster now, I don’t give them long before they’re found out by the new staff.

Right on. NU football needs players who commit with their hearts, not their mouths. If some of these kids would rather play football with the delinquents in Colorado good riddance. Besides, it seems everyone tends to get so wrapped up in top recruits at the skill positions - breeding ground of the prima donna - but regardless of what kind of offense you run, regardless of what kind of defensive scheme you install, success in football starts on the line of scrimmage. Period. Give me five three hundred pound corn-fed animals on the O line and you will have success. Give me a team of guys who played the game the way Dane Todd did, you will have success.

Rivals. to me, is a joke. Kansas never got any 4 or 5 stars. Mizzou is the same. LOOK AT THEIR SUCCESS! All you need is the right coach and you can make any player a great talent no matter how many stars he was coming in!

First time writing on huskerzone but i love reading what the regulars have to say makes me laugh thanks guys. But i wanted to say to all the husker fans out there worried about this recruiting class dropping, is that the kids that are decommiting they can leave we want kids that want to play here, look at Osborns teams that won multiple national titles there recruiting classes werent ranked high at all, they just were coached great, and if you look at the coaching staff that we have here NOW it makes me smile from ear to ear i get goose bumps just waiting for the season to begin, i mean these coaches know each other very well and there great coaches just look at the profiles i mean WOW this is goin to be great. You have two very good offensive cordinators with one of the best defensive cord. as the head coach in the country here with chemistry which will make this offense pretty leathal. So please feel great about what we have here because i feel we could honestly be lookin at a BCS bowl game next year

@D-Dane,
Welcome, Nice post! I agree, I think everything is on it’s way up. If people are that worried about our recruits then they probably spend to much time on rivals. I am extremely excited about this upcoming season.
Hope to see ya back, It’s kinda slow around here with the Holiday’s and all.

Ok. Rivals. A small groups “opinion”. Plus, how many of those five star recruits even pan out? And the ones who do, how many stay all 4 years? With the system that is being put into place you will get committment not only in work ethic, but also for the long run, which is what made the dynasty of the 90’s. We want kids who are passionate about playing for their coaches and obviously those who decommit are not playing for the right reasons. GO BIG RED

Let’s not forget Callahan’s tie ins to certain recruiting sites that bump stars up here and there for their buddy.

@D-Dane,
Yes welcome. Most of the ‘regulars’ here are full of alot of good info. Then there’s the ones like me who are just full of it! See you around.

I just wanted to point out that Hawaii had no business in a BCS game.

I was hoping they would prove everybody wrong, but ya your right, they didn’t. I found myself feeling sorry for them. The O line looked like that was the first game they had ever played before.
At least the Tigers and Red Raiders brought home 2 more for the Big 12. I’m pretty sure that the Mountaineers will get it handed to them tonight by the Sooners. If Kansas can pull off a win that would be 8-2 for the conference, that’s not to bad.

OU is going to kick some tail tonight…WVU sucks. And Im boldly picking Kansas to win by 3 touchdowns!
January 2nd, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Well Pete, I guess as of right now (at half) we owe credit were it’s due!!! WVU showed up to play tonight…..Big Time!!!!
January 2nd, 2008 at 10:05 pm
I am stunned. Totally stunned. Well I gues now we can say it shouldve been USC vs. Georgia in the title game and forget OU. Heres a one: If it were UGA vs. USC in the title who would win?
January 2nd, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Heres one**
January 2nd, 2008 at 10:30 pm
The Onside kick was maybe the worst call I have ever seen.
January 2nd, 2008 at 10:50 pm
I thought it was hilarious that they camera panned down to the WVU sideline and showed Berry sitting right next to Dingle. To bad I wasn’t dyslexic, cause it would have been really funny then. Good call on that one, guys!
January 3rd, 2008 at 3:56 pm
Well I’m not going with Kansas by 3 touchdowns, against VT’s defense they will be lucky to score 3 touchdowns total. Kansas will need at least 31 on the board to win this one.
January 3rd, 2008 at 5:41 pm
I say Kansas surprises people….and wins 40-21.
January 3rd, 2008 at 6:44 pm
What the hell is up with FOX and these announcers this year. These are the biggest games in College Football and these guy’s are the best you could get?
January 3rd, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Another thing, did Frank Beamer have plastic surgery? His face looks all fixed.
January 3rd, 2008 at 7:02 pm
I didn’t know platic surgery could fix…what did he have, burns? It only shows from the side.
January 5th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Fox Coverage sucks. All they talked about was the differance in rules from college to the NFL. And Pat Summeral doing the Cotton Bowl? Man, they have got to get someone better than that!
