Looking At Huskerland Through Purify’s Eyes
Maurice Purify spoke to a reporter in Eureka, California about this season and his beloved Loserhan.
“He’s a good coach, and he knows his stuff,” Purify said about Callahan.
“It’s not really fair. It wasn’t the coach’s fault we were losing. We weren’t doing anything different last year when we went 9-4. It was just the little things — players not making plays when we needed them.”
“It’s crazy out there,” Purify said. “They expect a lot. Every game there are 90,000 people there to watch you play, and thousands of fans line up after the games to get your autograph. But the only thing they care about is winning. That’s it.”
Mo, Mo, Mo…If you’d spent four years in Lincoln, maybe you’d have gotten to know us better.

I think less of Callahan than most still I like to see his players defend him. Somehow it would make me feel worse if people like Purify were bad mouthing the staff as well.
I look at Purify and other players in the last 4 years as almost like victims. They were brought in by a staff that never should have been here and were almost doomed to fail. They, like their coaches will be forgotten and I am sure many of them will not look back fondly on Nebraska either. It was just a bad bad fit all the way around. But If it would make Mo feel any better I wore my #16 jersey every game this year.

I think you nailed it, Bug. All these guys speaking out are JUCO’s. Purify, Octavien, Nicks. Spend some time around the program. Someone who knows about the program…. I.E. Tom Osborne, Barney Cotton, Marvin Sanders, Ron frickin’ Brown. These guys will soon come to cherish there time in Lincoln because of these Men. It’s funny how wanting to win will make a few run away cring but will bring out the best in what we got left. Good Bye NFL mentality. Time to bring College back to Lincoln.
If you don’t want to win, go to Duke or North Texas, or even NOTRE DAME. I’ve always liked Purify, but damn man, think before you open your mouth.

It is not about winning man…its about how we do it…how about a little heart and a little less assault there MO.I think he for gets the fact that we still embraced him after the issues he had off the field.
how quickly we for get there MO!

You can’t fault him for being loyal, Bill Callahan did give him a shot to play after most coaches would have sat him for a long time, however loyality and stupidity sometimes walk a fine line. We have all spent countless hours scrutinizing Bill C’s ineptitudes and I am sure Maurice has as well, but he owes the man. That is why he gives us such senseless tidbits about little things you know the little things like an inept defensive scheme, or like the wrong quarterback to start the year, or the zone blocking scheme that made it look like we had four running plays. The little things like countless center screens, but no sideline or TE screens. The little things like going away from a game plan that is producing and also sticking with one that is not. The little things like sticking with a system at the expense of wins and losses. Ask Kevin Cosgrove about Loyalty, at least one thing the kids got from this guy can be construed as a positive, the Loyalty aspect. I just which he would of pushed a little harder on the winning aspect.
