Huskers Pound the Practice Squad

Yeah, that’s right, the practice squad. You know when championship boxers take a match before a title fight just to stay fresh. Well, that’s exactly what Nebraska needed in taking on Savannah State at the Devaney Center on Tuesday night. The result was a resounding 82-37 woodshed thumping.
Fourteen players contributed minutes and twelve put up points led by Shang “the thang” Ping. The lofty lefty put up a game high 11 points on 4-6 shooting followed by Alecs Maric with 10. Three players had career highs in Ben Nelson (6), Chris Balham (6), Cole Solomon (5), and Paul Velander had a season high in points (8) and minutes (22).
Nebraska stifled S.S. with defensive pressure and jumped on them offensively eary to build a commanding lead at half 42-12, tying a Devaney Center record low for points in a half (Arkansas, Bethune-Cookman, and Morgan St. ). Much of the same ensued in the second half with Nebraska resting it’s starters and letting the young guys take a turn.
Nebraska had better play from the guard position, shooting 45% with 8 assists and only 4 turnovers. The Huskers, as a team shot 50% and had 18 total assists and only 12 turnovers for the game. Not quite where you want it but after the way this team has thrown the ball away, I’ll take it! Savannah State was held to only 26% shooting with a meager 3 assists compared to 21 turnvovers. I don’t care who you are playing that is not going to get it done.
Oregon (16) (8-1) comes to the Qwest Center for a FSN televised 1 P.M. game on Saturday. The Ducks are averaging 89 points points a game with all five starters averaging double figures. On defense, however, they seem a little lapsed at times giving up 74 a game. Should be a very interesting game with 15,000+ in attendance. I went out on a limb for the ASU game on my first post and I’m doing it again here. Nebraska played Rutgers and Oregon in the non-confererence schedule last year, losing to both. They already have avenged the loss at Rutgers and will do the same with Oregon.
NEBRASKA 78 Oregon 63

It was nice to see them do to SSU what they should do to SSU. I am going to the game Saturday. Honestly I don’t think this game will have any impact on Saturday.

I JUST HOPE WE GET CONSISTENT PLAY AT THE POINT, I’D SAY 3 TO 1 ASSISST TO TURNOVER RATIO AND SOLID POST PLAY AND WE COULD GET IT DONE. I JUST DON’T WANT TO SEE A REPEAT OF WHAT WE DID AT THE START OF THE LAST GAME IN THE QUEST CENTER. START STRONG AND FINISH THE SAME, HELL WITH A WIN WE COULD BE COOKIN WITH GAS

3 to 1 for this team is stretching it a little. I would like 2-1, but I’ll be happy with 1.5-1.

@HUSKERBRAD
IF WE GET 3 TO 1 I THINK WE COVER YOU PREDICTION, I AM JUST LOOKING OUT FOR YOU MAN. HEY NEBRASKA SUCKS, WHY DON’T YOU SIT ON YOUR PORCH AND WATCH CORN OR PLAY WITH DIRT. HEY I HEAR YOUR TRACTOR NEEDS A TUNE UP, YOU FARMER. SERIOUSLY, I KNOW ITS LOFTY BUT WE WOULD WIN THE LARGE MAJORITY OF OUR GAMES WITH THAT AVERAGE. WE ARE WINNING KNOW AND ARE WE ABOUT 1TO 1. JUST KEEPING HOPE ALIVE

I just got done doing a tune up on my tractor (donkey). We have not played anyone except maybe Arizona St. Wait till we play the bulk of the Big 12 and Oregon on Saturday. A 1 to one would be good if we only had 12 turnovers.

@HuskerBrad
You are correct sir! I am not annointing them world beaters until later this evening, so I agree the Big 12 will shows us wht we have as a team

Damn! I’m beginning to like the Colorado people more and more! Leave the damn farmers and those of us that like to play in the dirt out of it. Ain’t nothing better then a 2-stroke and acre’s upon acre’s to go play on. You won’t make fun of farmers when your paying ten dollars for a Runza at the game because they all got ran off and a loaf of bread cost 20 bucks.
On a Husker note, I win Saturday would be great for this team, If they don’t win I hope they keep it competitive. Show that they have made progress since the Creighton game. Hopefully the Quest Center doesn’t turn out to be a bad omen.

If you see him, find out when the official coaching staff is going to be announced. Isn’t Bo leaving next week for Baton Rouge?

Is he sitting on your lap or you on him, Pete?

Can’t wait for tomorrow’s game! I’ll be in Doc’s Crew Section!
And on the 29th, I’ve been invited to a VIP Event before the Alcorn St. game and have the opportunity to meet and talk to Doc. I don’t want to step on your toes Brad, but I hope you won’t mind a post on Husker B-Ball after that!
