From the Lincoln Journal Star:
Former longtime Nebraska assistant coach Ron Brown confirmed Monday that he’s been hired as tight ends coach. He’s passed his recruiting test and is set to hit the road today.
“I think more than anything, I can get back into recruiting quickly,” Brown said. “I travel a lot (for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and now it’s just a matter of getting acquainted with the kids.”
Pelini isn’t commenting on his staff until its in place. But it appears other offensive assistants will include Shawn Watson, who will continue his role as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Barney Cotton for the offensive line and Ted Gilmore for the receivers. It’s unclear who will coach the running backs.
New defensive assistants, sources say, will include Bo’s brother Carl Pelini, and Marvin Sanders, who coached Nebraska’s secondary with Pelini in 2003.
Other names that have surfaced include Jimmy Williams, who coached linebackers at Nebraska in 2003, and possibly LSU assistant Bradley Dale Peveto, who’s the Tigers’ special-teams coordinator.
So far I like the moves, although I hope Watson will move away from a complicated West Coast philosophy and move more to a Spread version of the offense.

I have some issues with Ron Brown off the field but he is no doubt a hell of a coach. I just went over and read the posts at BRB…err…BCB about the new staff. I swear an IQ can drop to single digits if you hang around that board too long.
December 3rd, 2007 at 7:53 pm
What are your issues with Ron Brown off the field?? Just because he believes in God and you are probably too lazy to believe in anything except science???
December 3rd, 2007 at 8:09 pm
Maybe you should let him answer your question before jumping to conclusions.
Why is there enough relegion to incite war, But not enough relegion to instill tolerance?
I’m pretty happy right now with the list of Asst. Coaches Bo is bringing in. You listen to the former players and they all talk about how these guy’s make you play every down at 110% and they all also say they teach just as many life lesson’s as they do football lesson’s.
December 3rd, 2007 at 8:12 pm
GREAT points Red! It’s just that one of my pet peeves is 110%…you can’t play at more than 100%!
Sorry, I’ll be fine

Since you asked Joseph Goebbels is that the man is a bigot. I don’t so the difference in hating someone for his skin tone and hating someone for his sexual orientation.
December 3rd, 2007 at 8:46 pm
Let me re-write that so it makes sense…
Since you asked Joseph Goebbels I will tell you. My issue with Ron Brown is the man is a bigot. I don’t so the difference in hating someone for his skin tone and hating someone for his sexual orientation.

@ Count
I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. Why did you have to pull the Goebbels card? You continue to make your bed, now you must lie in it…
Ron Brown is not a bigot. Now you can spin your comments and try to make it all right. I know, you will say something like, “It’s only Ed” and you will have won. C’mon Count, you are better than this.

First of all because I mention I have issues with Ron Brown It was this clown immediately goes to the religion card. So yeah I pulled the Goebbels card.
Dirty little secret I too believe in God but I don’t use that belief to judge others for their choice in sexual partners.

I said you are better than this Count. Step back, take a deep breath, and take the high ground. This is not the place to argue this point. Let Joseph be the bad guy!

It must have been a tough Monday for everybody! We go from coaches, to God, Ed’s pet peeves, sexual hatred, to the Nazi party! Wow, and I thought I had a bad day.
It’s just an expression ED. One that means giving more that one gives on a consistent basis. In football you here a lot of coaches say “He just seems to be able to find an extra gear when he needs it”
I’m not gonna touch the sexual hatred and the Nazi’s.
Did I ever say how excited I am that Bo Pelini is our coach?
December 3rd, 2007 at 9:24 pm
@ Red
Still, 110%??? How is it even possible
If you’re giving less than 100% your coach is Kevin Cosgrove!
December 3rd, 2007 at 9:29 pm
Well, I know my local auto parts store seems to find a way to mark my parts up 110%.
Not to bring God back into it, but I beleive somewhere I heard that nothing is impossible!
We seriously need to stick to Husker sports, If I wanted a bible lesson I would attend church on Sunday.
I can’t remember, Did I say that my life is complete now that Bo is here?
December 3rd, 2007 at 9:47 pm
Yessss Red, we all heard you…roll eyes…
Thanks for keeping it real
December 3rd, 2007 at 9:53 pm
It is possible Ed. When you perform outside your own perceived abilities and reach down and give it a little extra you didn’t know you had.
December 3rd, 2007 at 10:07 pm
I think that Watson being retained is excellent. We have Ganz and he showed what he can do. Zac Lee is like a Chase Daniels but taller and we have Patrick Witt who can gun with the best. I thought Witt played and excellent spring game on the White team ( no that’s not racist Mike’l Severe) and could have been the best quarterback out there on the Red team. I think Watson will simplify the names….no more scout dodger batwing w/twist sideways 63 shuffle right 2 times left backwards on 2. It’s bad enough these guys are up from 5 in the morning until 11 at night. They don’t need to memorize all that crap too.

On a side note, Tom needs your help, he has fallen behind in the voting.

@ Brad
I agree your play book should never be bigger than your physics book.
December 4th, 2007 at 5:41 pm
My sources tell me that the new defensive staff says our D is loaded with talent but they just need some coaching. I dont know about you guys but I think this D might be worth something next year!
December 4th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
How many sources do you have Pete!
December 4th, 2007 at 5:48 pm
I think Pete’s last name is Pelini and his wifes maiden name is Osborne.
December 4th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
Well if I told you the names you would probably recognize some them so I dont think I should tell. All I know is that there is lots of promise in the defense and that the new coaches say were going to be damn good next season!
December 4th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
@ Pete
I hope you and your sources are right because I don’t know that I’ll last another season like what I witnessed this year!
December 4th, 2007 at 9:39 pm
@Pete
I don’t have to have sources to know there is talent on that D. We just haven’t seen all of it playing! (YET) These players are in for a RUUD! awakening next year if Jimmie Williams joins this staff. IF anyone was wathching Big Red Wrap Up former players talked of how he broke Demorio Williams down to the point of crying and wanting to quit. Look what happened with him!! They also said they were puking after practices. I hope he comes here!
December 4th, 2007 at 11:40 pm
There is plenty of talent on this team, pure and simple. They had no confidence in the coaches or the system and it showed.
December 5th, 2007 at 12:45 pm
I don’t know who thiks were loaded w/ talent. I went to almost every spring practice last year and I saw some talent. I wouldn’t say were loaded. I think we have some nice players in the secondary, Suh could be good. I think saying were loaded is way over the top.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:01 pm
Wait until these players get the coaches they deserve and we will see talent.
December 5th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
After this past season, we may look loaded. It has to be much better. Hell, it couldn’t get much worse!
December 5th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
Yeah, but to steal a line. “the worst days as a HUSKER are still better than the best days as a BUFFALOE!”
December 6th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
Just wondering if anybody has heard anything more on this Bradley Peveto that might come from LSU to coach linebackers. I heard yesterday that he is the guy that was at the head of all the NCAA violations that Kansas got in trouble for a few years ago. Then today in the paper I read that he might already be out recruiting! I haven’t done much research on him yet, but is this A guy we want?
December 6th, 2007 at 5:35 pm
Nazis, Bigots and Queers, oh my!
I personally couldn’t give a damn less what a guys personal beliefs are - religious or otherwise. If he can recruit, coach and win it works for me. I am sure if I was a parent of a student athlete other issues - off the field influences of a coaching staff - would be important, but I’m not. So again, if they win, it works for me.
Just curious Red, were you O.K. with Osbourne’s decision to hire Pelini? It’s tough to tell.
December 6th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
I couldn’t be more happy! I wanted Bo instead of Billy. I think this is the most excited I have been since Cory Schlesinger was at full back! I feel like a kid at Christmas!
Bo Big Red!!!
December 6th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
I hope that clears it up for Ed to!
