ESPN is reporting Bo Pelini will be in Lincoln on Monday wearing Husker red.
Barring any last-minute snags, LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini will be introduced as the new head coach at Nebraska early next week, multiple sources confirmed Friday.
Pelini will coach the Tigers defense Saturday in the SEC championship game against Tennessee and, according to a source close to the situation, will be in Lincoln for an announcement Monday.
Sporting News also confirms the hire and says, “The fiery Pelini, who turns 40 on Dec. 13, is cut from the same rugged Rust Belt cloth as the Stoops brothers.”
[UPDATE] Pelini denies the report, telling Lincoln Journal Star, “I honestly don’t know where they’re getting their information.”

Alright men! I think most of us and most fans will be pleased with the hire. No bitching from any of us if things should go south. We got what we wanted. I don’t think it will go south and I think Bo will be here for a long time. I can’t wait for spring ball!!!
November 30th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
Yeah, it’s excellent and exciting news.
November 30th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
BO PELINI IS THE KIND OF HEAD COACH THE BIG 12 NEEDS!!
BOooooo PEeeeeeLiNI……..BO PELINI!!
Man, If the world wasn’t coming to an end with this ice storm I’d go to 72nd and Dodge!!
November 30th, 2007 at 9:32 pm
Maybe the rumor of Turner Gill coming in to be groomed for the AD job might be true. Tim Cassidy resigned today and Turner has been mum on the Nebraska job. Coincidence? Maybe……
November 30th, 2007 at 9:48 pm
@ Husker Brad
I’ve heard that were going to bring in Turner to replace Cassidy and then he will take over for Tom when He finally retires as interim AD. That just rumor but I wouldnt mind seeing that happen.
November 30th, 2007 at 9:54 pm
BUT………
Ketv.com is reporting that Bo Pelini denied reports of him getting the job. My guess: He got the job but is denying it because he wants to focus on the game tommorow and does not want any news to get to his players. Also, Tom was asked by the AP if He hired Bo and he refused to comment yes or no. One more thing; My father owns an a buisness here in Omaha and he called me today and said that one of his clients called him dad that Bo was being picked up in Baton Rouge on Sunday in their private plane. I have to believe it to be true. Who would call someone and say they are picking up the new NU coach in their private plane and lye about it? Oh well, we’ll have to wait ’til Sunday
November 30th, 2007 at 9:56 pm
Sorry, I meant to say one of his clients called him today*** not “called him dad that Bo…”
November 30th, 2007 at 10:29 pm
Bo’s got to deny it for now he doesn’t want his team thinking about anything but the game.
November 30th, 2007 at 10:49 pm
i sure hope so guys!!
November 30th, 2007 at 11:36 pm
It’s in ink men. Faxed ink anyway.
December 1st, 2007 at 12:03 am
This is very good news! I just hope it’s true. I’ve been in favor of Bo from the start. I was at the front of the line throwing stones at Callahan. Bo should have got his chance years ago. Therefore I feel as if nobody should be able to bitch at all if he doesn’t work out. We should have known by now. I’m just excited to see our football team go out on that field and roll heads! That much I know he will bring back.
December 1st, 2007 at 7:54 am
Come on everybody!
Boooooooo Biiiiiiiiiig Reeeeeeeed!!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 8:08 am
Sounds like LSU is gonna be doing a lot of searching. Herbstreit said this morning that Bo coming to NU is a done deal and Les is a lock for going to Michigan.
December 1st, 2007 at 8:17 am
@ Forever Red
Your right, LSU is secrewed. Not only is Pelini going to NU and Miles to Michigan but their AD is resigning in June. They are going to have a lot of trouble in the near future.
December 1st, 2007 at 9:16 am
Maybe this is old news, but it’s new to me.
I just heard that Washington State is talking to Turner Gill.
December 1st, 2007 at 9:16 am
What did I predict? Bo Pelini, 12/03/2007, 11:15AM…
December 1st, 2007 at 9:43 am
Inside Scoop you got it right on the money. And yes, WSU is talking to Gill.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:44 am
I will support Pelini, like I would support any coach, but I think he’s a bad choice. Just my opinion.
@LE
I reserve the right to bitch if it goes south.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:53 am
Only you ED
GO BIG RED!
December 1st, 2007 at 11:19 am
Let’s all keep one thing in mind, TO is going to pick the guy that he feels will get the job done. Personally, I like Bo and by all accounts he has the job. I think the more important thing is that all of us TRUE HUSKER FANS support whoever the new coach is 100%. We all know that we will probably be going through some growing pains next year and won’t win every game. I think the best thing to do is welcome Bo with open arms…maybe even declare it “BO PELINI” Day in Nebraska. Another thing, any ideas on who Bo might bring in as assistants?
December 1st, 2007 at 11:49 am
It was brought to my attention that my previous post could be taken the wrong way. I’m not boo’n the big red. It was meant as…….
Bo Big Red!
I’m still hope’n we can get the spring game sold out to show the players and coaches our support.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:13 pm
@LE -
No, there are two of us. I’ve never been sold on Pelini.
Fire Bo Pelini!
ha. someone had to say it
December 1st, 2007 at 1:33 pm
Well, if all we are going on is what ESPN say’s, I wouldn’t get your hopes up yet. Miles said he is not going anywhere, he is planning on staying at LSU and he was pretty upset the ESPN would report something without the facts. Now maybe this is just a way to keep his teams head in the game today, or maybe ESPN doesn’t really know anything and Bo isn’t coming to NU.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:46 pm
Maybe LSU borke the bank to keep Miles.
I heard Bo will bring the secondary coach from LSU, Mallory. He played at Michigan though, so it may depend of what happens there. He might be the DC if Sanders is not. We’re going to see a lot of husker blood lines. I’m sure he will bring Carl’s ass with him too. I would expect at least three on D. Wyatt will remain and Bush will stay for at least one year, TO loves him. I don’t know about offense. Gill or Watson will be OC, Gilmore’s a good coach, Wagner sucks.
December 1st, 2007 at 3:26 pm
i was surprised to hear the name that is being thrown around for d coordinator….kevin cosgrove. this is for continuity purposes. in other news, warren buffet is leaving me all his money!
December 1st, 2007 at 4:11 pm
I think with Coz and Phil not recruiting anymore and just being happy with their paycheck says that they are in no way considered for the new staff.
December 1st, 2007 at 4:22 pm
i think theyre coaching incomptetence is why they wont be considered for the new staff. the only place cos has a shot to coach at is florida international where the 109th ranked defense would be an improvement. i think the coaches that will get some legit consideration are gilmore, busch and watson, maybe wyatt. I think someone said on here pelini likes wyatt, osborne likes busch and watson has shown a lot of promise when calling plays, plus offensive guys love him. but, if none of them are considered, i could understand why.
December 1st, 2007 at 4:53 pm
R.B. Coach—-Damon Benning. I love his commentary on the Zone
Q.B.& O.C.—-Shawn Watson I think he has proven what he can do. Yeah we wanna run the spread, but we still have Ganz, Lee and don’t forget the Protype NFL QB Witt.
O.L. Dr. Rob Zatecha—-Once again very knowledgeable and can break down film really well.
W.R. Coach——Gilmore. Our receivers have shown what they can do.
D-Line—–Gotta go with Jason Peter, or even Steve Warren…….ex- huskers with some NFL exp. and some passion. There would be no slackin’ on their watch!
Backers Coach—— Jay Foreman Ex-Husker who played his heart out every game.
D.B. and D.C.—– Marvin “the man” Sanders. Pelini has been quoted as saying he “Loves” MS and would employ him wherever he goes. Nuff Said. I think in Pelini’s only year here, the INT’s were more a result of MS having the players play the ball more.
Safety Coach——-Mike Minter. Anyone who was at the Texas A&M game and saw the video of his career knows what this man has done for Nebraska. He has family ( in-law ) ties to Lincoln and would make an excellent coach.
There it is guys, my choices.
December 1st, 2007 at 5:34 pm
There is only one name you need to know for D.C. I’m pretty sure he isn’t doing anything right now and he is ready to go……
Richie Incognito!!! Now that’s a fired up Defense!!!
There will be State Patrol officers standing by the tunnel to hand out Assault charges after the game.
December 1st, 2007 at 5:54 pm
Pelini looked like a guy who wouldn’t be back at LSU after the game.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:06 pm
Why? Did you here him singing to?
“I’m leaving, on a jet plane. Don’t think that I’ll be back again! I’m going, to Nebraska, I’m gonna make them win again!” Bo Big Red!!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 6:16 pm
@ Red
Except for the fact that Richie is a starting lineman for St. Louis, I agree with you. Maybe Jason Peter? How would you like to come into halftime losing with him in there? Although he does say he has ADD, so he might have forgotten what had just transpired.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:32 pm
I know I shouldn’t laugh, but that right there is some funny stuff!
December 1st, 2007 at 6:53 pm
@Administrator
Totally agree! He had water thrown on him and was hugging his players like someone who was not going to be seeing them too much anymore!!
December 1st, 2007 at 9:20 pm
Right now, Bo is packing his bags.
@Husker Brad
Peter is not a college level coach. Zatecha has never coached. I hope that’s a joke.
We need a little Husker blood, but we can’t hire too many guys who are former players that have never coached before.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:09 pm
@LE,
I agree, If Bo ain’t pack’n, Bo ain’t come’n!
Even if LSU has a shot at a National Championship I say Bo has to pass on the bowl game. He need’s to be here now. I don’t think Tom would give him the option to pass on these few weeks of critical recruiting.
Do you suppose the jet he will be flying in on is a Bo-eing.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:53 pm
Of couse it was a joke….all except Minter Sanders, Gilmore, and Watson. Just because you have never coached doesn’t mean you won’t be a good coach. Josh Huepal at OK never coached and now he’s the Sooners QB coach. Major Applewhite never coached and now he’s the OC at Alabama.
December 2nd, 2007 at 10:48 am
@Husker Brad
Yes, but they were GA’s first. Applewhite has been coaching since he graduated. GA at Texas, then to Syracuse, then to Rice, then to Bama. You don’t just say I want to coach and get a job as a D-1 coach. You can’t say Applewhite never coached before getting the Bama job because he was at three different schools.
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:26 am
All I was refering to was how soon after their playing days they are they having success. Someone doesn’t have to have “coaching” experience to know that they would be a good coach. I was joking about Peter and Foreman, but not about Minter.
