It’s An Obsession, But It’s Pleasin’

ESPN says we’re obsessed.

“It’s absolutely crazy right now with people tracking airplanes and everybody having a source telling them exactly what’s happening,” Omaha radio show host Kevin Kugler said. “But unless you’re the 70-year-old former football coach who’s conducting this search, you really don’t know.”

After leaving a Tuesday afternoon meeting with the team, Osborne said he had not offered the job to anyone. Asked when he would name a coach, he said, “Hopefully sooner than later.”

He declined to say how many candidates he’s interviewed.

Osborne said he didn’t address the specifics of the coaching search with the players.

“I told them to go to class,” he said.

We live in a time when transparency and citizen media is on the rise, facts which radically increase a media organization’s need to know (so they can break a story and gain/sustain readership).

I really don’t think TO has narrowed the coaching search to Pelini and Gill as ESPN has reported. I think there are still a couple of other candidates out there that probably told the Search company something along the lines of, “I’m interested but I have one regular season game left, let’s talk next week.”

TO taking the interim HC title is a great recruiting move. Instead of leaving recruits hanging and putting the responsibility on their shoulders to call in to TO, he can now actively get out there and minimize the damage the coaching change has done to the recruiting process.

Well, how much harder does it make it for Turner to leave Buffalo when every student in the place is chanting “Turner stay, Turner stay!”

Just saw it on KETV, I don’t think he is gonna leave.

It doesn’t make it any harder. He’ll leave if the Nebraska job is offered. 2,000 fans in Buffalo isn’t going to change anything.

I agree — I don’t think TO would limit himself to just TG and Pelini without interviewing other candidates. He’s a good judge of character and probably wants to make sure that he is going to pick the right man for the job. So; to make a decision, without interviewing other top candidates, would probably not be a smart move.

After that being said, I still think Pelini and TG (notice I put Pelini before TG) are still the top 2 candidates. My guess is still 12/03/07 at 11:15AM for Pelini.

I think we all have overlooked a great hire for Nebraska. Tom, as interim head coach just name yourself permanent coach and call the search off! haha Actually, the more I think about this monumental decision, the top two candidates available in my opinion are either Gill or Grobe. I think Turner would be in for the long haul and his heart 100% into the program. When I think about the tunnel walk for next year, I envision Gill highlights and then see him take the team onto the field. Wow! Gill chose to play for Nebraska…let’s choose Gill to coach Nebraska!
