I have a feeling T.O. is going to hire Turner Gill for the head coaching job. And the papers say the decision could come as soon as Wednesday.

Here’s why I think it’s going to be Gill…he’s a former player under Dr. Tom, and the two remain close. Having a former player and long time Nebraska assistant take charge is crucial right now. Pelini only spent one year in Lincoln. Which means he doesn’t know all the high school coaches and boosters and everyone else like Gill does.
Gill is also available to start right away. His team isn’t going to a bowl game, due to non-conference losses early in the year (against storied football programs). Also, the A.D. at Buffalo has already said he’d hate to lose Gill, but that he’d make a great coach at Nebraksa and that he’s ready for the job. I like Pelini and Gill, but Gill’s two-year run as CEO of a team makes him that much more qualified.

Couldn’t agree more!

I want to play devils advocate for a second- Gill has been a head coach for two seasons and hasnt produced a winning record in either season. now i realize he took over one of the worst 1a teams at the time, but a medicore record in a mediocre conference is still that. If this were someone else besides gill, would people still be as excited about the possibility of him being the coach? I worry that emotions could be playing too much of a role with gill. Also, I dont think availability is too much of an issue because if a current coach was hired, its possible they would be let go to take over the reigns immediately too.
However, I like gill and think he’s a great person having met him several times. great character and integrity. I think he’s a high risk/high reward pick right now(the same can be said about pelini for that matter). I’m hesitant to make him the frontrunner but if the selection process is thorough and personal feelings are set aside as much as possible, and he is selected, i will support him and welcome him back with open arms.

Sorry, but I disagree. I beleive that Bo has been to a lot of top tier programs, pro and college, and has accumulated more knowledge about what it takes to be a successful program. If he brings in Marvin Sanders and Ron Brown he will do just fine with the in state recruits. I’m still praying it’s Bo, I heard three different interviews with former players today, all on different radio stations. All three past players said they beleive Bo would be the better fit for the program.

I got to go with Bo, too. Take all the points above together and you arrive with Bo as the choice.
November 26th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
With Bo or Turner I feel either one we can’t lose out on. Something has to be said for Buffalo sharing the number one spot in the east division of their conference. I think Marvin Sanders, Ron Brown, and many other former huskers are coming back no matter which one takes the reins. I personally like Bo Pelini, but how could you honestly really root against a guy like Turner?

Just so HB doesn’t give me a bad reputation, I guess I should clarify that if Turner does get the gig I won’t be rooting against him. I will be happy with him to, I just like the fire in Bo a little more.

If you think back to when Tom left Nebraska and chose Solich as the new head coach. Who knows how close Turner was to getting the head coach job back then. If turner would have been selected to take over toms job we all would have most likely been pretty excited. Now Turner has even more experience and I know he hasnt had the winning seasons, but he took over a TERRIBLE program and they are turning around. My brother just finished his senior season and Turner is the only reason he commited to buffalo. Turner is a great speaker and has very high recruiting skills. I believe he came back to Nebraska he would have all the talent he could ever want to produce a great team.

@ aaron
you either are a coach or your not. You can lead or you can’t. Turner has been a leader throughout his career. be it on the field or off. i would be worried about his record if his team was taking back strides but in his two years they have made forward strides. they have gotten better and improved on both sides of the ball. he knows the NU atmosphere and has been here through ups and downs. he has ties here and not to mention he has that human element when it comes to people, those who know him or have worked with him talk about the skills he has a mentor and motivator. is it an emotion thing, of course it is. thats what makes us husker fans, the ties to the program. if you’ve met him, did you not see the qualities that others who have seem to always mention. those being, genuine, caring, honest, and the guy just motivates you to be better, a brilliant football mind, great role model. I think if we get turner or bo we will take forward strides. the waiting is the hardest part-(tom petty)

I believe we are all in for a fun and exciting year ahead. The fact is we still have a very talented team that is in desperate need of motivation. I believe that either choice can do that, however from my experience talking with former coaches I know that we are in need of a coach that puts some of that smash mouth killer instinct back into these you men. From what I have seen that would be Bo! However I think the fact that Turner Having been through some of our greatest triumphs is also a huge asset. WHY CAN’T WE HAVE BOTH??????? I do not envy TO right now …the decision is way to tough!

I have been hoping that it will be Bo Pelini because of his defensive prowess and experience, but I agree with Husker Brad in that we really couldn’t go wrong with either Turner Gill or Bo at the helm. Both are “anti-Loserhans” as they are both true Huskers with class, integrity and a great sense of Nebraska tradition and values. On a related topic, did anyone see the ESPN.com (Gene Wojciechowski) website article last night that claimed it is now a myth that Nebraska is an elite coaching job and program, largely because of how BC and SP ruined it. Instead of an elite program, the writer calls the Huskers Football Program now “a seven tractor pileup”. Interesting reading, if you wish to post some or all of it here. Best wishes to all, and go Huskers! Thanks to Dr. Tom for righting the ship and steering it into a new era.

My prediction is Bo on Monday (12/3) at an 11:15 AM press conference to start immediately. My feedback from ex-husker players is TG would be a good coach eventually, but they don’t feel he is ready to take over as the No. 1 guy for the Big Red — Could be wrong though…

There was a plane that left Lincoln yesterday. If was from Crete Carriers and it went to somewhere in the middle of Tennessee and then continued on to Florida. Anybody know anything about that?
November 27th, 2007 at 9:56 am
The last I heard was the Cessna Citation that left Lincoln with TO on board en route to Baton Rouge, then on to Atlanta (this flight left Sunday though). The Tennesee/Florida flight is new news if that is true…
November 27th, 2007 at 12:32 pm
If you go to flightaware.com and look at yesterday’s flight log, you will see one from Lincoln going to somewhere in Tenn. and then on to Florida. The airplane is owned by Crete Carriers.

Not anymore! They requested to have that plane number removed. And “poof” it’s gone.
