The Versus TV crew talked with Joe’s dad in the stands during the fourth quarter, and then just after the game with Ganz himself. Both men are humble. His dad said the Ganz’ family has been coming to all the home games (from Chicago) for four years to “support the team.” Joe said he just wanted to come out today and support the seniors who’ve worked so hard. Again the team concept is front and center. This is a good kid from a good family. That he’s now leading the team with confidence means a ton. It determines how we finish and how we go into spring ball and next season. A win in Boulder means a possible bowl game and maybe even a winning season. There’s hope again. I can feel it in my fingers.
[UPDATE] Ganz went 30 of 40 with no interceptions for 510 yards and seven touchdowns. And the team scored on 11 straight posessions.

Look out for him next year. I dont know but I think with him at QB next year we might be able to really do something special. Just look at those numbers!

Another screw-up by Callahan. Ganz adds another dimension to the offense and after a “little” game time is showing himself to be a possible great Husker quarterback.
Callahan, why, why didn’t you give him some playing time to see what he could do when we were on your 5 game slide???
November 10th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
Callahan was sleeping with Keller the whole time.

This kid (Joe Ganz) and his family represent everything that makes the state of Nebraska and the univerity great. How refreshing to see an athlete and his family demonstrate such incredible humility and lack of arrogance. Callahan and his band of coaches could learn a great deal from this amazing athlete. Callahan’s decision to start his “superstar” QB rather than a more focused and grounded athlete speaks volumes about his ability to evaluate talent and choose the right player to lead this football team. GO BIG RED and lets close this out with a win against CU!

Just for the record, when we walked out of the spring game I said Ganz looked like the better QB.
Nice job Joe! Lets go shred the Buffs!!!!
I would also like to add that I give 100% of the credit for that win to the players. After this long I know the coaching staff didn’t change anything. Some of the expressions on Billy’s face made him look more surprised then we were.
November 10th, 2007 at 9:46 pm
If Ganz started every game the record would be the same. The offense isn’t the problem, it’s the defense. Don’t hang Keller on Callahan. If he chose Ganz at the start of the season the entire state would have exploded with anger.
It’s funny how everyone seems to forget the love affair Husker fans had with Sam Keller before he even took a snap. Now Callahan made another mistake — shut up.
November 10th, 2007 at 11:29 pm
@Forever Red
I remember you saying Keller looked like a number one pick and Marlon Lucky was the best running back you had seen since Gale Sayers!
November 10th, 2007 at 11:49 pm
I was told by my Father-in-Law that in the Billy C. pregame show today, when referencing the seniors and the ones to come next, he said something about a new coaching staff. Can anyone confirm this? I have been trying to find audio from the KFAB pregame with him, but cannot.
November 11th, 2007 at 8:19 am
When Keller threw that cup at a young woman in anger over a parking spot, I felt at that time he was the wrong guy to lead the team.
November 11th, 2007 at 8:45 am
I don’t recall myself ever having a love affair with Sam Keller. I think I would remember that! So since we are acting like two year olds….You shut up Ed ya big do do head! Ed, Ed the Do Do head!
@Brad…Wasn’t it you that said Bill Callahan would be better then Devaney and Osborne combined? Also didn’t you name your dog after Marlon? Ha Ha
November 11th, 2007 at 9:14 am
Exactly which loss would have been a win with Ganz playing, Kansas? Oh wait he played that game. I stand by my comments. Anyone who believes Ganz would have made a difference in the wins and loses is flat out wrong.
I was not taking any shots at you Red so calm down. Where in my first post did I reference anything you said or claim you loved Keller? You clearly stated you liked Ganz after the Spring game. Maybe you should have another cup of coffee.
November 11th, 2007 at 9:19 am
It’s fine if you like Keller, Ed. But Ganz is the superior player and the team is responding to his leadership. And he can move! We need that. Every team needs that.
November 11th, 2007 at 9:22 am
Ha Ha! That’s actually kind of funny cause I just sat down with one. All is good.
November 11th, 2007 at 9:29 am
I’m not sure where you got that Bugeater. I simply made the statement that the record would be the same. I agree the team is responding to his leadership and I like the direction of the team with him at QB. I don’t agree that Joe is the “superior player”, but that’s not worth debating since Keller is hurt.
November 11th, 2007 at 9:32 am
@Ed
Texas. In the second half the offense sputtered. Keller and the whole offense stopped moving the ball. I believe that Joe would have led the offense to score a few more touchdowns or even just get us a few feild goals to win that game. The defense played well against UT; The offense stopped producing in the 2nd half. With Ganz in the game we would have won. I do agree with you that we would not win a whole lot of games even with Ganz as starter(Our defense sucks too much) but I’m sure as hell we would’ve beat Texas.
November 11th, 2007 at 9:43 am
I’ll admit that he might have won the Texas game. He also might have lost the Ball State game. There is no way to tell how either of those games would have gone with a different QB. It’s a team game.
November 11th, 2007 at 10:04 am
I understand that Callahan felt as if his hands were tied when he talked Keller into coming to Nebraska. But that’s part of being a good coach. You can’t be loyal to a player just because he is a senior or he looks better on paper. I’m not saying Joe should have been the starter from day one, but I do think that Joe has proved these last 2 games that he should have at least got a shot to go in and make something happen when Keller was down. We our all Husker fans and I agree, there is no point in argueing over what might have been. It would have been hard for any QB to keep us in most of those games. I will still be a happy Husker fan if we can go to Boulder and knock the living crap out of CU! Unfortunatly if we win we are possibly going to have a lot of company in the 6 wins catagory.
November 11th, 2007 at 3:01 pm
Oh well, all I know is that were going to kill CU and get to a bowl! In fact, from how the Big 12 has played out this year, if we win we AUTOMATICALLY go to a bowl game because the Big 12 is guarenteed 8 bowl spots with the possibility of nine. Here are all the bowl elegible teams if Nebraska wins in Boulder:
1. OU
2. Texas
3. Kansas
4. Mizzou
5. T Tech
6. A&M
7. Nebraska
8. K-State or Okie State
9. (if necesary) K-State or Okie State
Looking at the schedule, I would say KSU has no shot at getting to a bowl. Mizzou at home and then at Fresno; 2 tough games. I really hope we go bowling this season.
November 11th, 2007 at 3:05 pm
Correction***
K-State and Okie Stae both have to win one more game to get to a bowl. I believe KSU will not get the 6th win. Even if they do, we still have a very good chance to go bowling with the possible ninth spot available. If we beat CU by 20+, then I’m sure we would go before an A&M or an Okie State, just because we would be the hot team.

@ED
It’s not that we might have won more games with Ganz, it is the clear fact that this man can not recognize that certain persons have talents that others do not. Joe Dailey is not a drop back passer. He is in the mold of Joey G and if Loserhan would have used him as such, that would have been a winning season. This is the same in respect to other players on this team. Running Back, Safety, Cornerback, Linebacker, you can chalk this all up to bad coaching. We can go back to not using David Dyches and bringing in “his guy” to kick field goals. Let us not forget that upwards of 15 players have left this program because they do not have the same kind of “GO TEAM” spririt Mr. Ganz has. This is why this man needs to go. If he wouldn’t go, we would see more of these transfers from players who should be playing but aren’t.
PERIOD!
November 12th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
I don’t think you can judge a guy based on one start. But, if you did, the numbers Ganz put up on Saturday wouldn’t make him a starter at the University of Nebraska, they would make him a starter for the New England Patriots. I would echo Brad’s sentiments; how in the hell does Coach Callahan not recognize the kind of talent Ganz obviously has? Keller seems like a good kid and all but I’m glad he got hurt, it’s a goddmaned shame it took an injury for NU’s coaching staff to get the right person on the field. When Ganz picked up a first down on a busted play scramble and decided to knock a cornerback on his ass instead of stepping out of bonds…it nearly brought a tear to my eye! You are dead wrong Ed. If Ganz was a starter from day one our entire season would have been different.
November 12th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
Imagine how good ganz might be had he had the opportunity to play 2 or 3 series in the games we were down 30 points in the 4th quarter.
November 12th, 2007 at 3:20 pm
Did anybody else here Billy’s tele-conference today? If I was Joe Ganz dad I would hunt down that little turd and punch him right in the mouth!! What a piece s@#t!!! It had nothing to do with Ganz being a talented player, Ganz did good because he is a product of Billy’s system!!! What the F@#k!!!!! And then he went on to say that because he will not be here next year nobody will ever break Ganz’s record!!! Pretty much saying he is the best coach we will ever see! Its all a product of his system!!!! I would really like to punch him for Ganz!!! What an egotistical piece of garbage!! It’s time to take out the trash Tom!!!
If you want to hear the conference go to 1620 the zone. Click on the first segment of USC.

@RD
LOL. Get a clue.
Callahan needs to go and will. His pompus ass comments today made me sick to my stomach.
