In an interview with KETV’s John Schutz, Tom Osborne responds to a question about the Nebraska Walk-on Program with “That will depend somewhat on the new coaching staff.”

[UPDATE] According to Omaha World Herald, Randy York, NU associate athletic director for communications, said it was “unfortunate” if Osborne’s comment was misconstrued and that the former coach did not intend to speculate on coach Bill Callahan’s job. “He was asked a hypothetical question,” York said, “and he gave a hypothetical answer.”

You’d think TO would know how to hold his cards better after serving three terms in Congress. But no one will fault him for this slip. Except maybe the coaches. I say maybe because I’m sure BC is itchin’ to move on. Having the entire state breathing down your neck can’t be much fun.
We didn’t run with this on HuskerZone last week, but I’ll go ahead and mention it now. A caller to 1620 AM “The Zone” said BC is on his way to St. Louis Rams as their new Offensive Coordinator. He said it would happen after the Texas game. I guess we will soon know if that’s the case.

Re: The Rams rumor.
The owner of the Rams is on the record this past week as saying head coach, Scott Linehan, will not be fired during the upcoming week. With their 8th loss of the season today, the Rams now look forward to licking their wounds during their bye week. Inquiries to the Rams media relations by associates of HuskerZone.com were met with a reiteration of the statement regarding Scott Linehan and “we are not aware of any changes regarding the rest of the coaching staff.”
In Pro circles though, if this were to happen, a Monday or Tuesday change to the coordinators would make the most sense giving roughly 10-12 days to get some minor tweaks to the offense.
Callahan’s actions of the past two weeks are curious. Bringing Watson to the sidelines and giving him a healthy dose of play-calling. The changing face of the defense to an all-out attack mode we saw against Texas. Is this prepping Watson and Cos finishing out the season without him? I say 90% coincidental, but none-the-less, intriguing.

These big time college programs are corporate in nature and that means secrecy and following procedure. For all we know, TO has already offered the job to Bo, but due to the fact Pelini heeds to finish strong at LSU, nothing can be announced yet. BC likely has his next job wrapped up too. I know we’d all like to know the score, but I think it’s about as clear as it can be under the circumstances. This coaching staff is done after three more games, at which point the best coach available to us will be hired.

Well, since these rumors are flying around out there part 2…Jimmy Hoffa is in my backyard!! It’s all speculation until it happens. If Bo Pelini is named head coach, I say we all go to the airport to greet him and we bring in the Husker Marching band, the Baton Girl….the World Herald kid of the Game, the guys that sell runza’s and Val’s, everyone and we chant his name at the top of our lungs!!!
