Texas 28 - Nebraska 25
I have a tough time believing in moral victories, but I was really glad to see a true Nebraska team take the field in Austin today.
We lost again to a team that simply has our number, no matter what we do. I’m bummed, but I’m also encouraged that maybe we can win these next three games (which would mean a 4-4 record in conference and a bowl game). If we play like we did today, we will have the chance to win.
On a side note, it was nice to see Ganz get in the game and throw for a TD and a 2-point conversion.

Yes, we played great but it really bothers me how close we came. Imagine if Sam Keller doesnt fumble in the third quarter or Nate Swift catches the ball for a huge first down in the third quarter. I would be a little bit less pissed off if we wouldve lost by thirty. I mean I just hate these type of games where you should have won, but you make just enough mistakes to lose and your opponent gets just enough breaks. I tip my hat off to our players but man was this a hard one to swallow.

I don’t feel that way at all. The last three weeks were impossible to swallow. Today, we did not win but the team played well together, we hit people, there were no stupid calls from the sideline, and we did all this against a top 20 team on the road. Today was a big step forward for this team, even with the loss.

Spelled ‘Gantz” wrong…Ganz is the correct spelling. But what about the time-out with 0:09 seconds left in the 1st quarter after our reciever stepped out of bounds, or the conservetive play-calling after the first series in the second half. I’m just mad that all the sudden we were very conservative on offense when we could have cut the throat on Texas. We had so many chances to put that game away but a combonation of poor play-calling and poor execution held us back. The Defense also was very tired in the 4th quarter. But, This game showed me that we still can win. I honestly think we’ll be bowl eligable this season. We will beat K-State and Colorado. GO HUSKERS!!!

To me, the team showed a lot of heart when everyone in Texas and here at home saw them as having no chance, basically automatic blowout losers that had already packed it in. But what still really stands out is that EVERY week our defense gives up 500-600 yards of offense and nearly 400 on the ground. I’m sick of Callahan just saying without emotion “we need to play better”. It’s plain to see that we need to COACH BETTER, 20 losses in 3 plus years is an embarassment to the University and State of Nebraska. As was posted so plainly on this website last week (from SI I believe), Loserhan as the Cornhuskers’ coach is one of the most ill-conceived experiments in College Football History. BC is a proven loser, and indeed one of the Top 10 Worst Coaches in NCAA Football.

I agree that the players played a great game today. But once again we went into predicable mode. We got a led and started the run, run, pass, punt play calling. You are to tell me that in that whole 10 pound play book there is not one play that allows you to pass on first down. Ya know, change it up a little!

I agree. After we scored on the first series to go up 17-3 I said ” here comes the prevent offense next”!!! They did play really really hard and I applaud them for that, but with 5 straight losses to the longhorns, they have our number. And as far as beating Kansas in Lawrence, did you guys watch them against Texas A&M? They looked great. I find it hard to believe we will win against them, especially after 30 years of frustrating butt whippings were put on them by Nebraska. Unlike Nebraska, Kansas will be playing for the last 30 years of their program.
@Pete- if we are correcting people’s misspellings, it is not “combonation” but combination.

Whats up with a balanced attack. You cant bring the house 80% of the time and not expect a team like Texas to adjust. But the blitzing gave the blackshirts confidence for the first 3 quarters.
To me it looked like NU was tired in the 4th quarter. I think its time to bring back the strenght program to NU.
I cant wait to see the coaches go!

To Bugeater,
Your qualification “if we play like we did (Saturday @ Texas)” is the key point. But based on how this season has unfolded, I am reluctant to believe at this point that the Texas game will be the rule going forward rather than the exception. It is the most recent sampling, but it’s going to the team coming up huge (moreso than we’ve come up all year) to win the next 3 against some Conference teams that have greatly improved from last year, unlike the Huskers whom Loserhan has rapidly deteriorated. I believe that a 2-1 or 1-2 finish is more likely, which could result in a semi-embarassing 6-6 bowl eligible season, or a truly miserable 5-7 that back with our August rose-colored glasses looked unthinkable, even under the incompetence of Callahan. But I agree that 3 more solid efforts like vs the Longhorns will give us a chance to compete and scratch out some wins.
