Zac Taylor on Ganz’ ability to step up and lead this team:
“He’s been ready for it the last three years,” Taylor said. “I know Joe didn’t want it to happen like this, but he’s the most confident person I’ve ever been around in my entire life. He knows this offense way better than I ever did.”
Ganz is excited to take the reigns. This is what he said last Saturday:
“I want to get my team to a bowl game,” Ganz said. “It’s my job to win these next three games and get our team to a bowl game. We can end the season on the right foot. If it falls on my shoulders, I love the pressure.”
Beating undefeated KU on their field would certainly be an auspicious debut.
Go Ganz. Go Big Red.

BC has earned the loyalty of at least one former player–Zac Taylor. Taylor wants us to cool our jets and let this “fluke” of a season ride.
Here’s some text of an email he sent last week to Lincoln Journal Star’s Brian Rosenthal:
It kills me to read papers, internet ramblings, and tv shows, knowing that they don’t know what I know, they don’t know what these players know. We still have talent. We still have a great staff. This has been a crazy year, and I am still confident that this team will rebound and salvage the year.
Trust me, I know people are frustrated because they look at this season and see what is happening. I can completely understand that. I just think this staff needs one more shot, one more season to see what they can do. We have the talent to make this thing work and turn it around. The fans will not be disappointed. I honestly think this season is a fluke; I was there for two months this season, I see the problems and I know that they can and will be corrected.
I wouldn’t write this just to defend Callahan. The tradition of excellence is too important at Nebraska for us to waste a year. The fans deserve to see this team have great success; it’s what they are used to, and it’s what they should expect. If I didn’t think he and his staff could get this done, then I wouldn’t put myself out there and I would just sit here in Canada and keep my mouth shut. I just want to ask people to hang tight, ride this out, and give Coach one more chance to prove that we will win Championships with this staff at Nebraska.
One more chance? Ain’t gonna happen, Zac.
We’re Dead Last at Stopping The Rush
Nebraska now ranks 119 out of 119 major college football teams in rushing defense, giving up an average of 242.6 yards a game.

In an interview with KETV’s John Schutz, Tom Osborne responds to a question about the Nebraska Walk-on Program with “That will depend somewhat on the new coaching staff.”

Booyah, Husker Fans.
[UPDATE] According to Omaha World Herald, Randy York, NU associate athletic director for communications, said it was “unfortunate” if Osborne’s comment was misconstrued and that the former coach did not intend to speculate on coach Bill Callahan’s job. “He was asked a hypothetical question,” York said, “and he gave a hypothetical answer.”
“We’ve never been so sick of losing in our entire lives,” Huskers defensive back Ben Eisenhart told an Associated Press reporter yesterday. “We’re so tired of losing and going to class and everybody asking you questions and it’s just a real downer.”
We hear you, Ben. We’re sick of it too.
So, let’s work hard this week to keep the intensity level up and we must learn to adjust to the zone-read, or we’ll get burned again.
From what I saw yesterday, I think we can beat KU in Lawrence, but it’ll take a huge effort from every coach and every player this week.
Texas 28 - Nebraska 25
I have a tough time believing in moral victories, but I was really glad to see a true Nebraska team take the field in Austin today.
We lost again to a team that simply has our number, no matter what we do. I’m bummed, but I’m also encouraged that maybe we can win these next three games (which would mean a 4-4 record in conference and a bowl game). If we play like we did today, we will have the chance to win.
On a side note, it was nice to see Ganz get in the game and throw for a TD and a 2-point conversion.
Nebraska v. Texas - Live Game Notes
Blackshirts make a stand on Texas’ first drive. Blitz Packages with corners playing tight on the receivers, resulting in a punt.
Husker running game going strong from their 5 before a punt near midfield.
It looks like there is actual fire in their guts. Great to see…unless these teams switched uniforms before kickoff.
It is great to see some fight. A nice defensive recovery after getting dinged on a good run.
A fine quarter of football on both sides of the ball. Dare I say it, but this may have been one of the best 15 minutes they’ve played in the last 5 games.
Nebraska 3 - Texas 3 13:41 in 2nd quarter.
Interesting commentary by the announcers, loosely paraphrased, a foregone conclusion that a change needs to be made to salvage the recruiting class. Given that TO said it won’t happen until the end of the season, the change needs to be made the minute the season is over.
We all knew Callahan was on the hot season and presumed he will be gone soon, they’ve already pushed him out of the door.
Surprise surprise, stacking the box against the run is working, except the poor tackling. Clearly has kept Texas from establishing any kind of rhythm.
2 Minute drill. TOUCHDOWN Keller to Nate Swift. PAT Good.
Nebraska 10 - Texas 3 :36 2nd Quarter
Who are these Huskers? Keep Bill Callahan Oops, momentary fit of insanity.
3rd Quarter
1st Drive by Nebraska. 56 yard by reception by Hardy followed by another Nate Swift touchdown, PAT good.
Nebraska 17 - Texas 3
The Blackshirts - and yes, they’ve played up to that level today - continue to stuff the Longhorns as they are forced to punt again.
Another field goal by Texas.
