According to the Omaha World Herald, backup center, David Kolowski, has self-published a 491-page book, “Diary of a Husker,” a sometimes-scathing account of the first five seasons of former coach Frank Solich’s six-year reign at Nebraska.

“I know I’m going to ruffle some feathers with some Husker fans,” said Kolowski, a Millard West graduate, now 27 and studying at a chiropractic school in Davenport, Iowa. “But after five years of anything, every single day isn’t going to be rosy.

“I hope people realize that this is a guy who kept track of his real life - his real thoughts, emotions and feelings. I basically bared everything. I’m laying it all out there.”

With encouragement from his parents, Bonnie and Millard West principal Rick Kolowski, David decided before his first day at NU to keep a journal.

Kolowski says he thinks Steve Pederson will enjoy the book, as he supports his decision to remove Frank Solich. Kolowski calls Solich a poor communicator and he blames a lack of leadership among players for many of the woes during the Solich era.

Associated Press is reporting that three former Cornhuskers now playing in the NFL are investors in a new West Omaha financial institution–United Republic Bank, established in December.

Josh Bullocks of the New Orleans Saints, brother Daniel of the Detroit Lions and Demorrio Williams of the Atlanta Falcons are shareholders of the bank’s parent company, Republic Corp.

Michael Pate, the bank’s president and chief executive, said Thursday that a friend of his knew the football players’ financial adviser, and Pate pitched the bank investment to her. Later Pate met with the players themselves and went over the bank’s business plan.

“These guys are pretty smart,” Pate said. “They understood exactly what they were getting into.”

By now, you may have heard that Jay Norvell left the Nebraska coaching staff to become UCLA’s new offensive coordinator. What you may not have heard is the bloatosphere’s retorts.

Here’s what Dirty Laundry has to say:

Jay Norvell is leaving Nebraska so he can “call plays” for UCLA. So you’re telling me he didn’t do that at NU? That Billy C was the crafty fella doing all that trickery? Is that what you’re trying to say, that Callahan’s a bit, oh, controlling? He holds that thick ass playbook like Linus holds his blanket. I’m surprised he doesn’t suck his thumb during a few plays.

Here’s what Husker Mike has to say:

Sorry to see you go. I understand why you left, as the opportunity to be a real offensive coordinator (not just one in name only) is the next step on the road to becoming a head coach. But this one hurts Nebraska… a lot. I’ve felt that Norvell was the best coach on the staff for some time now. One of the best minds and one of the best people as well.

There is also speculation that defensive coordinator, Kevin Cosgrove, is being sought by the Minnesota Vikings. Cosgrove denies it.
