Dr. Tom Now Coaching Future Business Leaders
Associated Press reports that Dr. Tom is back on campus—not in the athletic department, rather in the College of Business Administration.
About 60 students are in his undergraduate level Leadership in Organizations class. After he passed out a syllabus on Tuesday, he told the class in his typical unassuming manner: “My name is Tom Osborne.”
Cynthia Hardin Milligan, dean of the business college, said she has wanted Osborne to rejoin the faculty for years. Osborne taught briefly in the College of Education in the late 1990s before running for Congress in 2000.
“The business college emphasizes ethics and leadership, and we have strong programs in those areas,” Hardin Milligan said. “Tom is a wonderful example of both of those.”
Osborne said he accepted the invitation to teach because of his concern about what he called a “crisis in leadership.” Osborne pointed to financial scandals involving Enron and Global Crossing and others he witnessed up close in Congress.
Even though Dr. Tom is nearby, don’t expect his teaching to rub off on Pedersen, nor Callahan.
Though the names of Osborne his wife, Nancy, are on the new athletic department headquarters, he has toured the building only once. He never attends practices, and has spoken with third-year coach Bill Callahan only a few times.
“Philosophically, I don’t feel right about going to practice or hanging around the offices and having people perceive that I’m trying to live my life in the past,” Osborne said. “It’s a new day. It’s a new staff.”

Dr. Tom’s not speaking to Bill Callahan is totally understandable. Osborne is a pillar of the community and a shining example of intelligence, dignity, class and success. Loserhan is the exact opposite, a disrespectful (Tom would NEVER stoop to throat-slashing or calling the fans “f-ing hillbillies?) and clueless “hired gun” of Steve Pederson. He has no any real substance, integrity or track record of success. Callahan is nowhere near on the same level as Osborne, personally or professionally, so it’s not hard to understand why they don’t converse. It would be like Albert Einstein trying to speak with the Village Idiot, or a Supreme Court Judge hanging out with the Leader of a Street Gang. They’re oranges and apples, and in Callahan’s case, rotten apples!

tom took fifteen years to do anything great just like it will take bill. you have to be patient. you might be calling him loserhan now but youll soon find out that his appropriate name is “winnerhan”

Pete’s really smart…he obviously can’t read or understand somewhat large words in print, such as those on this website and those written by local and national journalists. Wow Pete, “Winnerhan” is SO ORIGINAL AS A COMEBACK NICKNAME, you’re such a mental giant…if you’d bother to check the stat’s (do you know how to read numbers, add or subtract?), you’d understand that this site crowned him with that name for good reason…he’s the losingest 3-year head coach in our history going back almost 50 years! Pete must have befriended Loserhan in the unemployment line when Clueless Bill was run out of Town in his last job.

And to re-”Pete” his cluelessness, Pete didn’t even acknowledge that Dr. Tom taking “fifteen years to do anything great” NEVER once had (in 25 total years) more than 3 losses in a season. Loserhan’s inept 3-year performance of dismantling our historic football program has NEVER not had a 4 or more loss year: 6, 4, and 5 losses per season is both pathetic and a disturbing pattern of mediocrity that true Huskers and true Husker fans know should not be tolerated, especially from a disresptful-to-Husker-tradition outsider loser Loserhan. Pete also NEVER mentioned Loserhan’s complete lack of class in throat-slashing and calling Hiusker fans “f-ing hillbillies”. Tom “never did anything great” like that, either!

did u guys ever check the stats? in toms 25 years, we would go 9-0 to start and be blown out by oklahoma every year except for about 5. we might have only had 3 losses in each season but we played bad teams! Then after the embarrasing losses to oklahoma, we would go and lose the bowl game. The big 8 was a joke. we might not be back to greatness, but if we have patients(like we had with tom) we might get somwhere. now im not a callahan lover, he has made his mistakes, but we have to keep going with him. Besides, weve only had him for three years. Just wait like we waited for tom. Now next year if we have a season like we did this year, i will be totally on your side. with all the talent we have theres no way we shouldnt have a shot to win the big 12. im not gonna start calling him loserhan but im not totally trusting him to lead us to a national title

Pete’s an intellectual, alright! First, he minimizes Dr. Tom’s accomplishments (how he always got “blown out” and “embarassed” by Oklahoma), then he tells us to have “patients”! What are we, a Doctor’s office?
“Patience”, as in a virtue, is a different word, Pete! And 3 years with Loserhan is enough patience, especially considering his pathetic total of 15 losses which was a full decade under Dr. Tom. And don’t forget Osborne never called the fans demeaning names or did the classless throat-slash!

dont say i am minimizing dr toms acomplishments. he is one of the greatest coaches of all time and it took him time and adversity to do good things at nebraska-just like it takes any new coach at any school! and like i said, im not against you jeff. im not praising callahan, but at the same time im not totally against the guy. lets wait till after next season. if were mediocre then ill join your side. but if we make it to the BCS then we should keep the guy. next year is the deciding year for callahan.

and one more question to anyone on this site…..
Do you guys have anything better to do than just write on to some website about how much you hate someone? i can think of much better things to do
February 8th, 2007 at 5:53 am
Pete, you are the one with more written entries on this blog over the past week, so why criticize others for “writing on to” (great English!) this website…and it’s NOT about hate, you should actually read the entries from the Site’s administrator and other posted articles (e.g., from jornalists, etc.). It’s about the love we have for our community and our (regrettably formerly elite) footbal program, and how a clueless and disrespectful-to-the-fans outsider has “run a reverse” and botched up all of our pride and historic tradition in 3 years (and soon to be more) of piling up losses in amounts not seen here in generations. He and Steve Pederson continue to be a slap in the face to our City, State, and region. Dr. Tom for AD and Turner Gill for Coach!

Art did an excellent job of summing up my feelings on being a fan and why I run this site.
Read back through some of my posts, you’ll see that I’ve given Callahan the benefit of the doubt on several occasions. I even applauded this year’s game against Colorado - which I still think was an solid gameplan - while others were bashing him ‘needing trick plays to win.’
Being a fan means supporting the program, questioning what is wrong and wanting for the best possible future. It doesn’t mean being a blind follower.
February 8th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
blind follower? no im not a blind follower. i believe in callahan. like every coach, at some point in your coaching carear you have to climb the hump. im not being a blind follower. im just giving BC a little more time than you guys. thats all. next year is my deciding point. if BC has a great year than im all for him but another year like this and he should go back to oakland!!!!!!!!!!!
