Callahan’s Worst Call Of The Season
Ben Gouldsmith of the Daily Nebraskan heard Bill Callahan say words in Dallas that ought never have been spoken.
“I thought we competed pretty well today,” Callahan said. “We still have a ways to go, and we said before we came in here that we weren’t ready to beat a top-10 team just yet.”
What kind of coach says this? You can think it, but you don’t say it, not with players at your side and a microphone in your face.

For someone who just finished his 3rd season with a base of players that are primarily his recruits, that speaks more about his coaching (in)ability than it does about the players.
Let’s face it, 2007-08 will be a very interesting year. There will be very few players left over from the Solich era.
I AM SICK OF LOSING TO TEAMS THAT WE SHOULD BE BEATING. PERIOD.
His quote should have read, “I still have a ways to go, and I said before I came in here that I wasn’t ready to be a coach capable of beating a top-10 team just yet. I’m only on chapter 4 of ‘College Head Coaching for Dummies,’ and I have to tell you, this is a hard book.”

At the microphone, just like on the sidelines, this Coach IS NOT QUICK (OR SMART) ON HIS FEET at all. He’s a dummy alright, and that’s why our Huskers are consistently out-coached and out-manuevered, especially after halftime when the other coaching staff is smart/alert enough to adjust to what Simpleton Loserhan is telegraphing all game long. Auburn’s D-Coordinator basically came out and said the same thing, as was mentioned in a previous posting. Callahan should be equipped with a Dunce Cap on the sidelines instead of anything associated with Big Red. He’s an embarassment, a non-Husker and the biggest loser we’ve had “brought in” (Thanks, Steve!) to Nebraska in generations. Even Tom Osborne was angry at our glorious AD for “setting back the program” when he fired Frank Solich, but curiously Pederson and Callahan are still in place. Not so curiously, the program HAS INDEED been set back to mediocrity. 15 losses in 3 years for NU was unheard of and only a bad nightmare just a few years ago. Now thanks to SP and BC being joined at the hip and steering our ship right over the cliff, it’s not only a bad dream but also a brutal reality for all of us, and it will continue to be brutal as long as we the fans tolerate both of their repeated failures.

Wow, for a coach to admit publicly BEFORE a game, basically that he and his team are not ready to WIN that game, is just outrageous. What kind of coach would feel he is already defeated before even playing? Why would anyone with this attitude be coaching at Nebraska???????????
