Husker Mike brings some welcome perspective to our coaching problems.
I’m willing to give Bill Callahan at least one more year to see if we start seeing some progress. It’s not a endorsement of Callahan by any means; outside of recruiting, he’s made far more mistakes than he’s made good changes too date. But Nebraska can’t get into a coaching carousel. Look around at how difficult it is to replace a legend: it took Alabama 3 tries to replace Bear Bryant. It took Oklahoma 3 tries to replace Barry Switzer. How many tries did it take for USC to replace John Robinson??? I still don’t think Bill Callahan is the answer at Nebraska; he’s just the 2nd guy to try and replace Tom Osborne.
Personally, I believe it’s simply a matter of time before we send BC packing. So, who’s next? South Carolina isn’t paying Steve Spurrier the big money. I don’t know that he’d want to journey into unfamiliar territory, but he’s one hell of a college coach. Any other suggestions?

Four names come to my mind, Price, Hawkins, Hill, Pelini. Of the four I believe only Price, and Pelini would be interested. I think Pelini would be a good coach only if he hired right. Price would be a good coach but might not stick around long. I don’t think Hill would leave California, or Hawkins would leave Idaho. But I would ask all four if they would consider it.

I’d take Pat Hill in a second. I think he would leave Fresno State, but it would have to be the perfect fit and Nebraska might be it.
Pelini likely wouldn’t even pick up the phone on a call from Nebraska unless Pederson was gone.

I don’t think any coach of consequence will agree to come here unless Pederson is out. No serious-minded person will want to work for someone like Pederson who is proven to be so badly incompetent and arrogant. Let Pederson go and woo Barry Alvarez to come home as athletic director and right the ship. Next, hire Monte Kiffen (another Nebraskan) as head coach and have him bring his son Lane (current co-OC at USC) as OC. Bringing in proven heavyweights now with NU roots will do more to right the ship long-term than giving BC another 1-2 years to flounder, only to then have lost the chance to get Monte and Lane.
