Utterly amazing. In the time between the game ending on Saturday, and 8:30 am this morning. This site has received ten times our usual traffic - the majority finding their way here via a search engine searching for the term “Fire Bill Callahan.”
Personally, I’d prefer to see Steve Pederson get the axe, and let an incoming AD give the program a thorough examination and then make some decisions.
So, what do you think? Please leave your comments as to whether or not they should.

I know things aren’t like they used to be but give Callahan a chance to get the talent back that we used to have. It kills me that people in this country are so quick to criticise, but offer very little in the way of solutions.
I am convinced that the sun will shine once again on our beloved huskers. Please recall that the same people or their parents were this critical of Tom Osborne and it took him how long to win his first national title.

Callahan absolutely must go. I started the season as a patient BC fan, and losing is one thing, but so many blowout losses have prompted me to start my own blog dedicated to the ouster of Callahan (firebillcallahan.blogspot.com).

Why should Callahan stay? Is it because he doesn’t have the players he needs yet? Oh come on. How about his all powerful West Coast Offense? Most people would be happy if he could generate a few first downs in the first quarter. Or maybe his high standard of sportsmanship? He just can’t help himself. Enough said on that subject. I’m not saying Nebraska should win the national title this year, but they should be heavywieght contenders in the Big XII north. That’s not going to happen, so I say “pack your bags”
November 7th, 2005 at 1:51 pm
It makes no sense to get rid of Callahan without also outsting the one that hired him. Fire Steve first, then sort out the rest. I do feel that Bill C. and his Ouija-Board offense should be sent packing, but not before they fix the root of the problems. Sorry Steve, but you’ve taken a fine tradition and a healthly program and turned it into the laughing stock of the Big 12. Alumni donations must have slowed to a trickle by now, and it’s only a matter of time before they have your head.

I think it would be funny if the university scheduled a press conference after each game from here on out. If the Huskers manage to come away with a win, the university says, “Our kids played a great game today.” Then if the more likely scenario happens, announce, “Our kids played a good game, but we can’t stand for losing anymore here at this proud university, so we’d like to announce the firing of our athletic director, Steve Pederson.” Then after watching all the bowl games like last year, hire someone with some football sense to replace him. The new AD can decide whether or not to keep Callahan. My personal vote goes to NOT. So, my perfect vision is for the Huskers to be narrowly defeated by Colorado, Pederson to get the axe, AD-to-be-named-later fires Callahan and hires Huskers-coach-of-the-future, and allows that coach to pick his staff. I think that the new head coach should be experienced and home grown…
November 8th, 2005 at 3:58 pm
callahan has got to go. Didn’t pederson fire Solich for blowout losses. Do we have any streaks or records left BTW. Thanks Bill. I am so sick of the argument that he needs time to get his guys in there. If he’s such a good coach then he needs to learn how to beat inferior talent (yes kansas had inferior talent). If the current huskers can’t run the west coast offense then run something that will win games.

Callahan has proved to be nothing more than an offensive theorist who can not coach. He lost his Raider team less than one year after playing in the Super Bowl, he lost the ‘04 Husker team midway through that season, and he has clearly lost our ‘05 team, again midway through the season. The problem isn’t that the players can’t grasp his system; the problem is — and his history attests to this over and over again — that he can’t coach. This will not change, no matter how much time he is given or how well he recruits.
Callahan should be fired, Pederson also, and the new AD needs to offer the job to Monte Kiffen, with the understanding that Kiffen would bring in his son Lane, the current co-offensive coordinator at USC, to be the OC here, and to be groomed as Monte’s replacement in 4-6 years, given Monte’s age. Kiffen (whose defense destroyed Callahan’s offense in the superbowl)would be a very attractive draw for recruits, as would Lane, who was tutored by arguably the best OC ever, Norm Chow, and who has done a great job this yeat at USC. Monte’s ties to UNL and understanding of the NU way would be just what the doctor ordered to stabilize our sinking program.
November 9th, 2005 at 10:08 am
You know what, I agree with the idea of bringing in Monte Kiffen. He was rasised as a husker and I believe that he still is a husker. (notice I didn’t capitalize husker) Anyway I don’t thinkg that Callahan realizes that wins and losses matter in college. This isn’t the NFL. I attend UNL and have for the past four years. Ever since i got here the football tradition has been lost. I hope that the freshmen this year will get the chance to relive the glory, that we have lost.

Go ahead and jump ship everyone, we all know the first to go are the rats. I live in Oklahoma, go to OU, and wear Husker Red constantly, I take almost as much crap as Callahan himself. No talent equals no wins. Should we have beaten Kansas, most likely, but if you fire Callahan now, what, a new attempt to get new players in for a new system that you allow two years to get rolling. As I mentioned before I live in Oklahoma, most people I hear sound just like the crappy ou and osu fans who swing between the two teams, depending on who is winning and looking good. Shut up, support your team and look whats happening, the WCO needs big recievers, and already Callahan and Co. have a 6′ 3″ reciever. It is only a matter of time, plus he has the USC game coming up, what a way for a fresh. or soph. to make a name for themself early in their career.
Keep the Faith

The AD & Callous hand should be let go. Nebraska needs a Cornhusker person, not outsiders like Callous hand & Peters’ son. I was for gettin rid of Frank Solich at the time but at least he was a Husker after all the years he spent on Coach Osbornes staff. The talent level isnt that bad at Nebraska, its the faggot passing game that Callous hand wants to run. This is Nebraska, not San Fagrisco. NO MORE LOSING TO KU!!! NO MORE LOSING TO KU!!! NO MORE LOSING TO KU!!! NO MORE LOSING TO KU!!! NO MORE LOSING TO KU!!! NO MORE LOSING TO KU!!! NO MORE LOSING TO KU!!! NO MORE LOSING TO KU!!! NO MORE LOSING TO KU!!! NO MORE LOSING TO KU!!!
November 10th, 2005 at 10:07 am
The guy lacks the requisite passion for the position he’s in. We’re sitting there sweating bullets and losing our minds becasue we’re behind at the half again and he comes out of the tunnel to speak to reporters with his oh so professional demeanor. It sickens me. Back to the pros with that nonsense.
November 10th, 2005 at 10:22 am
i USED TO COME OUT TO 1 GAME A YEAR FROM NC INCLUDING 5 WITH KU IN THE 90′S KU COULD NOT COMPETE
WITH NU AND WERE BEATEN BEFORE IT STARTED. HOWEVER,
WITH THE NEW PASSING WEST COAST OFFENSE, IT MAKES
OSBORNE LOOK LIKE AN EVEN BETTER COACH. HIS OPTION
OFFENSE AND RUNNING GAME MAY HAVE BEEN NOT TOO
EXCITING BUT IT GOT THE JOB DONE. CALLAHAN IS A
MISERABLE FAILURE AND NEEDS TO GO, HIS 2 FORMER
QUARTERBACKS ARE NOW BACK HERE IN NC
November 11th, 2005 at 7:31 am
from Omaha World Herald: After losses in three straight games and in four of the last five, Nebraska coach Bill Callahan says he isn’t worried about his job security. Callahan commented today at a contentious news conference during which he was asked whether he would fire himself if he were Nebraska’s athletics director. “Now what kind of question is that? Honestly, what kind of question is that? Next question, please,” Callahan said.
November 12th, 2005 at 4:37 pm
Look, I have been a Husker fan for my whole life (granted I’m only 14), but I think coach callahan should not be a part of Nebraska Football anymore. He has shattered many of our hard-earned records, and it has been very hard to watch, or even listen to the recent games coached by him. I am not a fair-whether fan and I support Nebraska all of the PLAYERS until the end, but I no longer support him.
After listening to the Kansas State game, and after callahan wasted Beck’s redshirt on the 2nd to last game of the season, I was fed up. Harrison Beck’s redshirt status is completly ruined after only a few playes in the 4th quarter of the 2nd to last game of the season. If I was Beck or even Beck’s parents I would be furious. I want callahan gone before all Allumni donations completly vanish. I don’t know much about the AD at Nebraska but I hear he’s the root of our problems. Through experience, I have learned that to fix a problem, you start from the root, so maybe thats where we should start.
I live in Dallas, Texas and moved down here about 2 years ago, and I still have not lost faith or interest in Nebraska sports but I would really like to voice my opinion toward our new coach and his allmighty west-coast offense, whatever.
November 13th, 2005 at 10:36 pm
I don’t know how much say Bill has in calling the plays but who ever decided to throw with a freshman QB with the lead with 8 min left. And run when we where behind with 4 min left needs to be fired.
November 16th, 2005 at 12:50 pm
I am amazed at the positive comments about the KS game that are posted all over the web. This game once again epitomized the biggest problem BC has–he can’t coach! Poor judgement on special teams and turnovers put KS back in the game before Beck was put in. Those problems go directly to whether the players are prepared and know what they’re supposed to do and where they’re supposed to be on the field, which goes directly to coaching.
On the Beck issue, I can’t believe my eyes when I read article after article that says he lead us on a winning drive that gave us the victory! The truth is that there would have been no need for such a “drive” had BC kept Beck out and let Ross or Lucky run down the clock. Let’s be clear about Beck. He nearly lost the game with his interception and only completed ONE pass, period, which wasn’t enough to get us in FG range. We needed a 15-yard penalty for that.
The bottom line is that the sloppy mistakes that closed our lead and then cost us the lead are the direct result of BC not having the players ready, and his decision-making to put Beck in and let him throw. Again, as I said in an earlier thread, BC is nothing more than an offensive theorist who has no feel for coaching.
Husker Nation needs to stop touting the sham heroics of Beck and see the KS game for what it really was–a lucky win that should have been in the bag early in the 3rd quarter. Let’s not let a bid to a laughably mediocre bowl blind us to the obvious, which is that we haven’t made real progress with this staff, and that, despite the recruits, we are unlikley to do so in the future, since BC et al can’t coach these kids. Bring on the Kiffen father/son team!
November 17th, 2005 at 9:55 am
Doesnt the boring Frank Solich look good now? I think Steve ought to be driving the first berry bus out of Lincoln. Riding shotgun should be Billy. The way the program is going may be acceptable in places like Manhatten or Boulder, but not in Lincoln. It is shameful to see the state of our beloved Big Red. Bring back the 5 yards and a cloud of dust. It is so painful to watch nowadays, and I’m tired of being taken to the woodshed by programs who, 4 or 5 years ago, couldnt hold our jocks!
October 28th, 2006 at 4:31 pm
I think I speak on behalf of all true Husker fans when I say that Frank Solich and Bill Callahan have ruined our beloved Huskers. Granted, no one expected that Frank was going to doing anything special after Osbourne, but when Nebraska went out on a limb to get one of the better coaches of the NFL at the time, we finally thought our luck had changed. Well, I think we’re now realizing that we were wrong. Personally, I gave Bill two years to shape the team and get his recruits, but now he’s just a sorry coach. He doesn’t stick to what works during the games and it doesn’t seem like he’s very enthusiastic or worked up about his responsibility. Husker fans have grown accustomed to winning, and we certainly have the talent to win, but when the coach seems to go out of his way to “give the game away,” it’s time to give him and his boss the axe.

Callahan will run the ball when he should pass and vice versa. Against Oklahoma State we were running the football right? 16 point lead right? So what does Callahan do, he starts throwing the football. No No, you continue to run the football and control the clock. I do not understand him at all. He is terrible and makes very poor decisions at critical points in games. Against Texas, why throw the ball to Nunn, who fubled the game away, when running the ball was kind of working? Worst case we punt the ball and Texas has the whole field to go. Why call a time out with 30 seconds left when Texas would have to rush their filed goal team out to get the field goal off? Why didn’t we try a long field goal at the end of that game? Yes it would have been 60 some yards, but good lord, it was worth a shot after Nocoachahan put us in that predicament. He ruined a superbowl team, whose talent was not his but rather inherited and then look what happened the next season….Worst in the NFL. This guy sucks and has got to go. Oh and yes Steve (Scott) Pederson, (I call him that cause he has killed our football) needs to go. Worst decision ever was hiring him, maybe the guy who hired him needs to go too. I am frustrated and used to go to games regularly, but I will not go as long as Nocoachahan is there, call me fair weathered call a bandwagoneer, but damn I hate this guy. I still watch the games on TV, but refuse to show any kind of support for Nocoachahan. I may go to the USC game next year as I do have a guaranteed ticket, but I don’t know. Why should I? Frustrated Frustrated Frustrated!!!!!!! FIRE BILL CALLAHAN!!!! Too bad we didn’t get Houston Nutt he actually seems to be able to coach. Steve Spurior should have been offered a deal he could not have refused. Why Nocoachahan?? WHY WHY WHY STEVE? If Solich was fired after going to a National Championship game and then going 9-3 or whatever his final season, why does nocoachahan get to stay after what he has done. Solich was the head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 1998-2003. He directed the Cornhusker program to six consecutive bowl games, including the national championship game in the 2002 Rose Bowl. Nebraska won at least nine games in five of those six seasons, and finished among the top 10 teams in the nation three times. What has nocoachahan done for us? Well, we got our asses kicked by Texas Tech by what was it 70? We have lost to KU and basically ruined everything that was last year and then we lose to the worst team in the Soouth last week?? Good God thankfully we didn’t have Baylor on the schedule this year, that would have been another string snapped. Maybe I just need to vent and this is theriputic for me, but damn it he needs to go.

Anyone remember Bo Pelini? Let’s try and get him back-if that means no steve pederson then all the better.
December 15th, 2006 at 8:40 am
@Devon
Pelini was well liked by players and fans in his one year at Nebraska, but look at the facts. He is in his 3rd season away from Nebraska. If he had what it takes to be a head coach - at Nebraska or anywhere - don’t you think he would have a head coaching job by now?
Besides, there has always been rumors of an off-the-record story floating around press that he was initially offered the job at Nebraska, accepted, but then later tried to play some hardball negotiating tactics on salary and the offer was revoked. Again, that is just the rumor I’ve heard a few times, but the fact that he still hasn’t found an HC job speaks volumes.
January 1st, 2007 at 12:57 pm
Bill Callahan blew the cotton bowl. Worst coaching ever. Run 1st,2nd and 3rd down to play for a field goal in the end rather than be aggressive and go for the win, and then not even attempt a 47 yard FG. Where is the option. Bill must go.
January 1st, 2007 at 1:38 pm
That was pathetic. No fire whatsoever in the second half after giving Auburn 14 points in the first half. Callahan gave this game away. He has had his chance. With the exception of the Michigan game Callahans’ teams have not won a game they weren’t supposed to and lost plenty to teams they shouldn’t have. I’m so sick of the team coming out flat after half time and not making the necessary adjustments. Callahan should give the university some of his salary back…
January 1st, 2007 at 1:40 pm
OH yeah, ORDER HAS NOT BEEN RESTORED!!!!
January 2nd, 2007 at 8:40 pm
I glad to see people are finally realizing calahan is not a great coach. Look at his past records or talked to people that have played for him in the past. He never has been and never will be a good coach. There was a reason he was standing in the unemployement line when pederson hired him. Fire calahan but don’t blame him. All the blame for our current state of affairs rest solely on pederson. Thanks to him there is not one person left on the coaching staff that has any sense of Nebraska’s history and tradition.
Hoping for the best when you know that he is not the right man is not being a supportive fan it is only allowing our great team to fall further down each year.
January 3rd, 2007 at 6:37 am
I’ve never seen a worse job of coaching from any of the previous Nebraska coaches. Calahan was not able to adjust to any of the defensive changes from Auburn. In all but one of the losses this year, the difference was the coaching
January 4th, 2007 at 8:17 am
fire callahan and pederson west coast offence? the teams kicking our butts sure don’t need it bring back BIG RED
January 4th, 2007 at 10:39 am
I think callahan should be fired unless he can stop being so damn conservative. this isnt the NFL, its college, instead of running the clock down and then getting points, get points and run the clock down so then all you need to worry about is holding the other team back. And he needs to use our players to their potential. they have so much more then where he puts them. and the crap with if were doin good passing so switch to running and vice-versa has got to stop. if its goin good for you, keep doin it. make the right damn call for once. i say sack him, like all the times zac taylor has been sacked because hes had all the time in the world and cant get rid of the damn ball and that has nothing to do with the receivers you moron.
March 20th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
I’m old school, and I prefer a power running game rather than a throw first, think later ofense. Fire Pederson, Fire Callahan, and hire Turner Gill and have him bring back the option offense.
March 20th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
I dont disagree nor do I agree James, but the truth is, that will probably never happen. Turner Gill most likely wont be hired as head football coach for Nebraska if BC and SP are fired. Knowing that Nebraska wants to become a modern football team, we know they wont hire Turner Gill. If we were gonna hire Gill, then we wouldnt have spent 4 years on modernizing, and then go straight back to the old days. It just wont happen.
March 20th, 2007 at 6:32 pm
hey scott, wat about that fake punt…didnt seem conservative to me.
March 21st, 2007 at 3:42 pm
And Scott, you dont think what Zac Taylor did for the program and for his team was great? Without him we would have been one of the worst teams in college football…or would you rather have Joe Daily at quaterback? Hmmm…I think not. Another thing Scott, Zac didnt always have “all the time in the world.” The O-line wasnt great by a long shot. They were just OK. I know that a lot of the people that blog on this site don’t like Bill or Steve. Thats fine, thats a valid opinion and that is what you think, but nobody can deny the great things that Zac did for the program. Honestly, you must not know much about the Huskers to say something so stupid. According to you, Zac is a “moron”. I know what youre saying is wrong and so does everyone else. You dont know what your talking about when you say “Zac had all the time in the world” There are some very smart bloggers on this site including Bugeater, The Administrator, Art S., Jeff P., and many more. YOU are NOT one of them! I cant believe anyone would think Zac was a moron. He had 3,197 yards this year! 26 touchdowns to 8 interceptions and was the 12th leading passer in the country. Better stats than the projected #1 pick Jamarcus Russel! YOU are the moron Scott, not Zac Taylor
September 16th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
Ehough is enogh, let imcompetence be known.
September 22nd, 2007 at 1:51 pm
Callahan destroyed the Raiders, and now has been just as successful in destroying Nebraska football!! He is NOT a coach. A coach mentors. A coach helps young kids grow. Callahan came into Nebraska an incompetent coach, hoping to ride the tradition and history to his own glory. And he has the audacity to blame his incompetence on his players! So now the world knows that Pederson and Callahan are buddies of some sort. How convent that Pederson secures a gold mind for Callahan just before USC destroys Nebraska on National TV! We have 2 incompetent people in the Athletic department, and they are fleecing the lambs! I am tired of my tuition paying for a 1.75 million dollar contract for nothing! FIRE BOTH PEDERSON AND CALLAHAN NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 24th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
The man is completley incompitant. He is one of the worst second half adjusters and does a horrible job of getting his talent mentally prepared for a game. Two games come to mind from 2006 when the Huskers took early leads just to piss them away (Kansas - Overtime Win) (Oklahoma State - Smashing Loss). It is time he goes and we hire a real coach… Chris Peterson 2006 Fiesta Bowl Champion!!!
October 6th, 2007 at 7:52 am
Fire Callahan! Fire Peterson!! Fire Cosgrove!! All need to go. Peterson will not bring in the correct coach so he needs to go. Callahan cannot coach talent . . . he needs to go. As long as Cosgrove is in positon we will never win a big game. Too bad we lost Bo when we had him. Stupid Peterson!
October 6th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
This is rediculous. I coach JR High FB and even I can figure out BC and the Coz game plan. Dont loose big. That is sick to think that we went from a dominating team in the Big12 to lets just not get blown out. At this point I would settle for mediocrity. There is only one record to fall and thats the sell outs. Petterson will be around until that one is gone too. Then to hear Coach Tom giving a pep talk to Creighton V-ball team makes me sick. He should be at UNL as AD. When will Harvey Perlman wake up.
October 6th, 2007 at 10:18 pm
Replace Callahan with Turner Gill! Callahan can not relate to the players. The team looks lost out on the field. Nebraska football has become an embarrassment. Turner Gill will be the answer! Did anyone see what he did to Frank Solich today?
October 7th, 2007 at 12:48 am
I’m tired of this guys excuses, and his inability to prepare his players.
There is no passion or motivation with this team and this staff is driving one of the all time great football traditions in to the ground.
October 7th, 2007 at 8:09 am
I can’t decide whom is a bigger joke, Callahan or Cosgrove. The reason Nebraska has no defense is because Cosgrove brought that weak ass Big ten style of play with him. What the hell was he doing last night? We rushed three almost the whole game and Chase Daniel had a field day. I remember when Nebraska defense used to attack and was feared. Now Nebraska is a joke. Dipstick Pederson should have thrown some money at Bo Pelini to get him to stay as Defensive Coordinator. I know the rumor was that if he didn’t get the head coach job that he wouldn’t stay, I think thats garbage. Look at him now, he’s still a defensive coordinator and a damn good one and he should be roaming our sidelines. Pederson you have done the unimaginable. In a state with one big time sport you have managed to ruin us. Pederson , Cosgrove and Callahan should be run out of town on a rail. The west coast offense sucks.
October 7th, 2007 at 8:20 am
Wow after watching Kansas beat Kansas State yesterday and watching Nebraska get embarrassed by Missouri it got me to wondering. What would Nebraska look like if they had Mangino instead of Callahan. Mangino is obviously a better coach. I think we can all agree that Nebraska has better talent than Kansas, but Mangino gets so much more out of his players than Callahan. Mangino has won some big games for the KU program with no talent and he has taken a page from Bill Snyder’s book. He schedules four cupcakes to get a team of lesser talent a confidence boost and while the non conference schedule is not great it is noteworthy that Kansas has not performed well against Toledo the last few years and then they whooped them this year. That is a definite sign of improvement. While I doubt that Kansas will ever become a consistent top tier team the fact is that Kansas is moving in the right direction and Nebraska is moving in the wrong direction. I sure wish we had the fat man genius at NU. People have to remember also that Mangino was the catalyst for Stoops Oklahoma team’s national title. Mangino was in control of that offense run by a not very talented quarterback and what was OU able to do since he left, well they just got spanked in the national title game twice with much better offensive talent. Good pick Pederson you d0uch3bag.
October 7th, 2007 at 9:06 am
Well I have to say that I am not suprised by the pathetic display by Nebraska out on the field yesterday. Do the administative staff at the University see what is going on, or are they turning a willing blind eye to what has been going on over the past four years. Lets put things into perspective, Callahan’s “Mission Statement” has been this, just give me a passing quaterback and I will win football games. While this was not spoken directly by Callahan himself, this is the statement that he is leaving on the field. He has no offense, no offensive line to speak of, a defense that is inept at stopping the opposing offense, and to top things off, an obviously daft coaching staff. Not only that, but upon his arrival he fired years worth of coaching experience to make room for his NFL buddies who couldn’t win championship games either. He has successfully ended most of the longest running records and traditions in and held by Nebraska, and still he continues on his course of destruction. And why might I ask is a one year eligible quarterback starting for out team who evidently cannot get the job done. What a waste of a perfecltly good scholorship, probably. It is evident that he doesn’t use any of the talent that his players have appropriately, and if his players aren’t getting the job done he’s unwilling to replace them. Now to the athlectic director. He is the one who brought in Callahan in order to take Nebraska in a new direction. Well, loosing sure is a new direction for Nebraska all right. I just wonder how much loosing the team will have to do before someone at the university wises up and fires the both of them for their obviouse incompetence!!!
October 7th, 2007 at 10:25 am
I don’t think that Keller is a bad QB, but I think that Callahan is the worst play-caller in the Big XII. Against USC, we were up at the half playing short-passes…what does Bill do? Switches to an ineffective running game, going three and out and punting on each drive.
Last night was disgusting. Why not mix things up a little? If your “game plan” is not working, change it in-game! So frustrating.
And this defense…I don’t even really know what to say. I think the biggest statement made about our D was when Mizzou, up by almost 30 in the fourth, fakes a field goal for the easy TD. Real classy move by Pinkle, but also indicative of the lack of respect the “Lack-shirts” are getting. And they deserve it.
October 7th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
I think the Huskers should fire Steve Pederson first and get a new AD in there. It’s true that Bill Callahan is not a good game day coach, but he does a good job at recruiting talent and when the offense is firing on all cylinders no one can stop the Huskers. I would love to see a quarterback in the offense for more than two years. In watching Zac from his first year to his second, he seemed like a whole other quarterback. The WCO takes time to learn but once it is it is hard to stop. However Bill can’t motivate the players, while watching the Mizzou game Sam looked to be the only one fired up, the rest of the team looked as if they could care less. So what I purpose is not fire Callahan but instead demote Bill to OC and try with everything in our power to get Bo Pelini to return as Head Coach (he might with Pederson gone). I think Pelini would be able to motivate the talent on game day not to mention his knowledge of defense would be a great thing to have. If the Huskers could not get Pelini they would need to get a good former DC in as HC … just a thought.
October 7th, 2007 at 8:53 pm
The slide into mediocrity didn’t begin until Steve Pederson was hired. And by whom, oh,yes Harvey Perleman of course!
I say fire the whole lot, Callahan & Co, Peterson, and Perleman!
October 7th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
Our first mistake was hiring Steve Pederson. Our second mistake firing a 9-3 (10-3 if you count the bowl game his team won). Our third mistake was letting Pelini get away.THANK YOU TO THE JOCK SNIFFERS!
We deserve everything that has happened to us. Steve Pederson has been rubbing our noses in his messes and telling us its a “good thing” for two years now and we have done nothing but swallowed his BS. Pederson has done NOTHING at any other program he came from. WHY ARE WE SO EAGER TO BELIEVE ANYTHING HE SAYS. He is Bill Clintons clone.
I used to watch the games on television and yell at the refs. Now I watch the replays on Sunday night and find myself wondering if Jim Rose and Coach Callahan are watching the same replay I am. Our players (Callahans Blue Chip Recruits) are dismal. They can’t tackle, they can’t block down field, they couldn’t sack a potato let alone a quarterback. Give me back the instate walk ons. They at least tried. This crew of overated bozo’s don’t even need a shower after the game. Rose and Callahan carry on a conversation billowing about how competitive we are and what good things we’ll take from a 41 to 6 pounding. How long are we going to swallow the media’s poop sandwich delivered by Steve Pederson via KFAB Jim Roses lips?
As I said before, we deserve everything that has happened to us. This is what happens when you let jock sniffers decide the fate of your program. I hope we’ll still have tenants for the skyboxes when we finish the season 4-8 and we are considered the joke of the Big 12. Don’t kid yourself. Mizzou isn’t that good, we are simply that bad.
October 8th, 2007 at 1:51 am
Frank had to go. Frank can’t even beat his old assistant head coach (what ever assistant head coach means). Buffalo beat Ohio this past weekend. Bill has to go! There is a reason he is not coaching in the Pro - anymore. What’s the difference between Bill and Pete Carol - Pete wants to be a head coach in College.
See if Bo wants the job. Otherwise, does anyone know Barry’s number? I’m sure he would take the job - but only if TO was his OC. TO would only do that if Charlie Mcbride was his DC. Let’s make some phone calls, write some checks and git-R-done!
October 8th, 2007 at 8:23 am
So, what can be done? All the blogs and message boards topics in the world won’t do any good. How does one, or in this case Husker Nation, go about changing the course of this program?
I know it’s all about money and politics. But I almost feel like making a sign and picketing in front of the stadium to help get the people’s point further out in the open.
What to do!?!
October 8th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
I’m eagerly waiting the day I hear the announcement that the whole coaching has been staff fired, plus that pathetic excuse for a man pederson. I’ve managed to turn off 4 of the 6 games I’ve listened to or watched. Its utterly worthless! I’m so disgusted on our play calling by the wanker no coach, on both sides of the ball. That little smirk pederson has on his face every time I see him just pisses me off to no end. The fans have power, the boosters have mega power, please people wake up and get these people out of here. Start calling radio shows, or writing the university, do something. This is ridiculous on every level. I’m not wearing anything nebraska related anymore. I almost don’t want to watch any games now, it makes me want to throw up the way we look on the field. Did you see the mizzou game? Not one of our so called blackshirts had a good hard hit on any of their players, including our db’s running up to hit their receivers, pathetic.. I’ve been watching our 90’s teams and the hits they put on people put FEAR into opponents, now they turn to fake field goals to further embarass us on national tv even. Just look at callahans records (not good records either). WORTHLESS!!!!!! You know espn people and the others just absolutely love whats happening to Nebraska football. I can’t stand it anymore.
October 8th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
Get rid of them all. Start over we cant be any worse off.
October 8th, 2007 at 3:25 pm
I agree!!! Fire them all. I posted on another blog “does anybody think Bo would come back for 2 million a year”? Hell I would rather have a raffle, take all the names of season ticket holders, put them in a big hat and just draw names for people to replace our current staff! At least they would be Huskers at heart and I know they couldn’t do any worse at play calling.
I think Scott has a good question. What can we do?
Maybe picketing outside of perlman’s office is a good idea. Is there anyway to organize 50,000 or so Husker fans?
October 8th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Get rid of them all, immediately, including Steve Pederson. Yah, we can motivate our loyal huskers. Get the word out on every website there is, tell the students, and have everyone that reads it phone everyone they know. Get it in the Daily Nebraskan, the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star. Word spreads fast these days. Just tell us where and when. We can keep it positive, still showing loyalty to our team, showing we are good fans; the whole idea is to get rid of the coaches and AD for the betterment of our team. Let ‘em know we’re just trying to keep the old tradition going. These coaches don’t care about the team, and the team can tell. We need the passion back, from the coaching staff and from the players. The players need better support from the coaches. You’d think that by now it’d be realized how these coaches and AD are going to cost the University big, big money. Why isn’t anyone doing anything about it, before it’s too late.
October 9th, 2007 at 12:55 am
Bill Callahan is correct in the fact that we do have talented players, but if your talented players don’t work together because of the horrible play callin, what good is it? Our defense has no BLACKSHIRT FIRE!! I am all for the Huskers, but Frodo (Callahan) and Sam Wisegamji (Pederson) must go!! I live in Oklahoma and was soooooo looking forward to coming to homecoming this weekend, but after that loss to Missouri Saturday, why do I want to drive all way to Lincoln not to mention spend all that money to see another Ball State performance. Yes we lost to USC #1 and then to Mizzou #17, but where is the Husker Power that Pede keeps talking about? People say to give Callahan time, but do they realize on Saturday that we could put points on the board against the #93rd defense in the country. Way to go Bill. West Crap offense is all that got him that job in the first place. I am a HUSKER FAN to the bone, but something’s got to change, bring OZZIE back if we have to.
October 13th, 2007 at 11:40 am
[…] Really. They’re ready to kill you. Read the sites here … and here. […]
October 13th, 2007 at 12:08 pm
So all you people saying let Callahan get his players. WHAT??? 3 Years ago he had the 1 class in the country. What does he have?? Here is what he has: No tradition, No desire to win, inabilty to inspire his players. He must go. Solich was 8-3 when he got fired and never lost to OSU at home!!! While your at it get rid of Pederson.
October 13th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Pederson is the one who needs to go. Granted Callahan should have never been hired, but that brings me back to Pederson. Nebraska fans don’t need all of these “outsiders” coming in and telling them how their football program needs to be run. We want Nebraskans running our football program. We want every Nebraska high school football player to dream of playing for the Huskers some day and having an avenue through a great walk-on program. That’s what made our program great in the past and that’s what will make it great in the future.
October 13th, 2007 at 2:32 pm
It’s too bad Nebraska gave Bill Callahan a contract extension because now they are going to have to eat what’s left of his contract when they fire his sorry ass. Not only is he not bringing Nebraska back to the top, he’s taking them lower and lower. He’s not getting the talent or making the most out of the talent he has. I don’t buy that kids don’t want to come to Lincoln and play. That’s BS! Why wouldn’t a blue chip athlete want to come play at a school that leaves and breathes Neb Football. That has a packed house every game. That has the tradition unparalled by most. Fire Bill Callahan!!!
October 13th, 2007 at 4:13 pm
I love Nebraska football, the tunnel walk music gives me goosebumps even when Bill Callahan is the one leading us out. Seriously though, Steve Pedersen talks progress but we have done nothing but digress the last four years. Callahan was a loser in Oakland and he is a loser hear. Nice pay raise! For what? Lets get somebody in hear who plays smashmouth football! Heard Bo Pelini might be interested in taking a HC job. Dont wanna be a fairweather/rush to judgement fan, but it’s time to get back to Husker football!
October 13th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
I agree with Cowboy fan! Hire Bo Pelini as our head coach!!! We need a great defensive mind. Then hire a good offensive coach and put him up in the press box like he needs to be. Ever since Bo was let go the defense has looked horrible. Go Bo!!!
October 13th, 2007 at 7:07 pm
Being the only NU fan in my part of Texas is hard enough but when the NU machine goes out and plays like they have in the last there weeks giving them support is very hard. In saying that I will always support the young men who play for NU, but I can not support the head coach nor the defensive coordiantor. Cosgrove and his defense couldn’t stop a strong Jr High team at his former stops as a DC and the trend continues. Coach C has demonstrated on countless occasions that he can not handle the pressure of playing calling in the college game. The talk of talent being equal is irrelevent. Poor coaching will always over come good players. Coach C has got to leave along with his DC and the AD. Coach C has had more that enough time to put his players and system in place and what do we have? As poor as the team played today there is a real possibility that NU will NOT win another game. NU fans must realize that the time has come to stop beleiving that there is a bright spot in this system, you must cut out the cancer and start fresh. As has been said before the is another coach out there that can and will need NU back to glory but it sure as hell isn’t Coach C.
October 13th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
The program is supposed to subsidize the education of young individuals. It allows academic all-stars that cannot afford a college education the opportunity. The university cannot afford to just let these guys go because a few whiney fans don’t get their way. It is only a football game. However, the university cannot subsidize education without ticket sales. Although, these coaches are also educators themselves, or supposed to be. They are supposed to prepare these guys for a career in the pro’s if they want it. NCAA should be the one to act. They should not allow schools to contract for more than a year with any coach or educator. Why, because the university should reserve the right to terminate non performing personnel. The NCAA needs to take action first and protect the educational system of all the schools and level the playing field. The coaches themselves are leaches on the system. They can perform well enough to get an extension on their contract, then get fired and have their contract bought out so they can move on and get another coaching job and actually make double salary that way. These coaches like cosgrove and callahan are raping the university. Off they will go this next year with acontract buyout and in a new job they will do the same. Didn’t they do that at wisconsin? What about Oakland? I think we have a case for fraud. and I think the NCAA and the NFL should investigate these individuals. There seems to be a pattern here.
But, the rational side of me says:
Let’s just get some tiki torches and a lynch mob together and find em!!!
October 13th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
@fairweathermyass!!
If/when the university would fire the coaches, what typically happens in top tier programs is that the booster organizations raise the funds for the buyouts.
And in the case of Nebraska, trust me, the money is there.
October 13th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
I feel sad for the Huskers and fans of the State of Nebraska. Frank Solich was fired. He’s looking pretty good right now in lieu of Bill Callahan. My big question is how can University of Nebraska administration fire Frank Solich and turn around and hire someone like Bill Callahan and pay him a king’s ransom to do a job the football players and fans trusted he would do? Send Callahan back to California and let him do his “West Coast losing” there. Too many people; i.e., Bill Callahan try to take advantage of opportunities and think they can pull the wool over our eyes. Wake up Nebraska football program administration. There are con artists out there! Get rid of Callahan!!! Get rid of Steve Pedersen too!!!!!
October 14th, 2007 at 8:12 am
Solich was the head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 1998-2003. He directed the Cornhusker program to six consecutive bowl games, including the national championship game in the 2002 Rose Bowl. Nebraska won at least nine games in five of those six seasons, and finished among the top 10 teams in the nation three times. Coach Solich compiled a 58 - 19 record at Nebraska.
Solich claimed Big 12 Conference Coach-of-the-Year honors in both 1999 and 2001, and was one of seven finalists for the Paul “Bear” Bryant National Coach-of-the-Year Award in 2001.
Prior to becoming head coach, Solich spent 19 seasons as an assistant under Tom Osborne. In Solich’s 19 years as an assistant, the Huskers captured three national championships, all with Solich as assistant head coach. Nebraska also won 11 conference titles.
Perdrson is an idiot and all those who supported his decison to fire Solich.
October 14th, 2007 at 10:27 am
Fire Bill. Fire Steve. Hire Bo. That we may again believe.
October 14th, 2007 at 12:02 pm
This team is a joke. All i care about is winning and this team simply is not getting it done, they need to find people that will or shit will really hit the fan. Fire the whole damn crew if they need to. I WANT WINS!!
A Loyal Fan.
October 14th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
Pederson’s time is up. So is his College roomate’s time also. Sorry Bill. Just because your check is in the mail doesn’t mean you can go and f*@k with Nebraskans Saturdays. You don’t understand that Nebraska Football IS life for us. Fire them, and I suppose Cosgrove too. Get Osborne for the A.D. so he can bring back the glory and the winning tradition of the Husker program. Also, I’d be gettin on the phone with Bo Pelini and asking for MAJOR forgivness and maybe see if he would come back. If the fans are leaving the games early, get a flippin clue. THAT NEVER HAPPENS IN NEBRASKA…WERE GIVING THE OKAY FOR COACHING CHANGES. Also, we need to remember the players…keep your heads up guys we love you!!
October 14th, 2007 at 4:15 pm
Don’t forget to e mail Mr. Perlman!
hperlman1@unl.edu
October 14th, 2007 at 4:56 pm
Callahan has had the opportunity to recruit and coach the team for 3 years. That’s an eternity in today’s game. The AD and the Head Coach need to go now. We need a bold and decisive move from the leadership at NU. This is not about jumping ship. It’s about an AD and a Head Coach who cannot do the job. They were given a chance. A good chance. Callahan just is not cut out to be a Head Coach. Let’s get someone who can be a Head Coach.
October 14th, 2007 at 9:46 pm
Husker fans are an emotional bunch. Husker fans hit the panic button quickly. How many of you wanted Tom Osborne’s head when he couldn’t beat Barry? How many of you called Tom mediocre after he finished 9-3? I have been a Bill Callahan defender for about one and a half years now. I’ve never said he was great, but I asked Husker fans for patience. He appears to be an adept recruiter for example. I am running out of ammunition though, and I am losing patience. This OSU team was mediocre, and we’re now looking up to mediocre as if it’s a distant bird in the sky.
October 14th, 2007 at 10:25 pm
I also think there is a point of no return. When you step into an institution and you fire and remove all the history of that institution, as Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones did in Dallas, you’re making a bold statement. Making such moves will call all of the attention to you, as it did with Jones and Johnson. As we all know Jones and Johnson proved that they knew what they were doing. It doesn’t look like Pederson and Callahan do not. They should both accept their last paychecks at the end of the season and turn down all future checks after they are fired.
October 15th, 2007 at 3:21 am
Fire all the staff and start over!! It seems they all are making excuses. Blaming the players and the fans. That is what upsets me the most. That they aren’t in the game. The coach’s need to show leadership. The players need to take some blame too. In nascar if the crew chief is not working well with his driver he is gone. You don’t see fans leaving the stands too unles Jr wrecks!!
October 15th, 2007 at 4:44 am
Can someone summarize Nebraska’s top 10 worst loss’s in past 40 years? Callahan must have at least 7 or top 10! All he had to of done was retain Bo Peleni and Marvin Sanders on his staff and he would be looking like a hero. Fire the entire staff now and let’s hire Marvin Sanders as a head football coach, or just hire Bo back @ 1.75M year.
October 15th, 2007 at 9:42 am
TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE!!!
If you had a tornado roll through your town, you wouldn’t wait a few weeks to start cleaning up the mess…. You would begin clean up immediately, with hopes to restore some sense of order and respect to your community….
FIRE THE WHOLE BUNCH OF THEM!!!
Clean house now so you can we can save what’s left of the season….
Hell, hire the Kearney High football coach… At least they know how to win…. !!!
October 15th, 2007 at 10:17 am
I’m a lifelong Sooner fan, and even I’m disgusted with what I’m seeing from the Big Red up north. It reminds me so much of what OU went through in the 90’s and let me say, if you don’t remedy the situation soon by firing the AD and his best friend, then you will be in for a miserable stretch of maybe a decade of losing football.
Losing football at Nebraska!!!!!! Come on! Fans up there….cause a revolution and get the board of regents up there to do something! Have a sense of urgency! You should not hire Bo Pelini…..trust me. Go to Wyoming, hire Joe Glenn (a 3 time national championship team builder, who’s also from Lincoln, Nebraska), and we’ll get those days back of titantic OU/NU battles!
October 15th, 2007 at 11:21 am
I was completely disgusted when I first heard we had hired Bill Callahan and were installing the west coast offense. Stupidest decision in the history of college football!! Nebraska is not just a football program, it is a culture. A culture of smash mouth offense and in your face D. Kids all around the midwest grow up wanting to play for NU and it’s style of football. They prepare for a certain type of play, high schools run our offense and defense. Decades of tradition were swept under the table and our recruiting has already suffered drastically. Fans, former players and coaches and alumni expect a certain style of football at NU. Pederson and Callahan have turned their back on everything that made Nebraska great. We are a joke now! The best players are going elsewhere now. How do you come into a school that has played a certain way successfully for decades (and recruited for that style) and come in and change everything? The kids that were there when Callahan started weren’t prepared for his new style and it seems the kids that have been coming in aren’t either. Pederson and Callahan MUST GO!!!
October 15th, 2007 at 12:22 pm
steve pederson {edit} has been called to step down!!!!! Hell yes!! Its the start of getting these cancers out of Nebraska football, now bill callahan and his company of losers needs to go now. This is the best day for Nebraska for a long time. Even though pederson should’ve been booted out physically on his ass along with his smirk, i’ll still take this! I’m ecstatic now this is awesome.
October 15th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
Reminder: Watch the name calling.

October 15th, 2007 at 3:40 pm
Congrats on your (for most of you) good news! Your friends at themeaningfulcollateral.com sympathize: We’re all IU fans, and have our own pain! At least you’re making progress to thwarting yours!
October 15th, 2007 at 3:52 pm
The only people that dont want to see Callahan go are the other 11 coaches in the Big12.Bring in Turner
October 15th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
Great look into your crystal ball! I’m glad to see the wheels in motion to get rid of Callahan. That guy always looks so nervous and un-confident on the sidelines. Time to get a strong leader leading the team.
October 16th, 2007 at 1:33 am
Seriously, Callahan. Look…you do realize that you have more than one part to that team, right? Or did you forget about the defense and the special teams? Option anyone? Hmmm…looks like the Super Bowl all over again. You don’t know what you’re doing. You’ve destroyed our dynasty. It’s not for lack of talent; you can’t (or won’t) coach the whole team. You’ve made an embarrassment out of us. That is NOT how Huskers roll. Why don’t you just tuck your tail between your legs and leave? You and Pederson can take a cruise together or something. Solich got the boot in a hurry(wrongly, I think)…there’s no reason you should stay. RESTORE THE ORDER!!!
October 17th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
Satan has been removed from the University. Let’s wait and see what the players attitudes are now that Tom is back.
Give BC some time. The players were great in the 1st game. Pederson’s door was closed to all in need and that destroyed the attitude.
I’m looking for a route of A&M Saturday.
Give it a little time.
October 19th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
The list of things wrong with Callahan is too long to go through completely, but there a few things in particular that really get to me. First, do you ever notice how Callahan has his nose in his playbook or playsheet pretty much the entire game? He rarely watches how the play unfolds, he just stares at his sheet wondering what terrible play to call next. How can you motivate or teach your players if you don’t even pay attention to them? Next, I was at the Wake Forest game and couldn’t believe that nearly every play 5 or more players would come into the game. How can anyone get into a rhythm when they play one down every five plays? This was especially true on defense where it was basically a different unit every play; it’s no wonder we get embarassed on D, no one knows their role! And last, Callahan was suppossed to bring this offense “into the 21st Century” and make us a jaugernaut offensively. There hasn’t been one season, or one sustained stretch where we have consistently done well on offense. There is ZERO upside to Callahan and the downside speaks for itself. Bring on Pellini like we should have done from the beginning.
October 20th, 2007 at 5:11 pm
Bill Callahan must go now. Just heard Sam Keller interviewed post Texas A&M blowout. Sam was saying how the players love Shawn Watson and will play for him. Sam failed to mention Coach Callahan, mmm… T.O., please fire Callahan now, make Shawn Watson interem coach. GET THE REST OF THE PROBLEM OUT OF LINCOLN. I’m sorry for the team, but when I heard Callahans post game interview, it was obvious that he continues to live in his egoistic self absorbed universe. He strive and strives, you know that, as he repeatedly explains. The truth doesn’t bear him out. He made no adjustments at halftime, as has been the pattern. Callahan’s coaching has become so predictable that the opposition coaches toy with him; they know his stubborness and ego will direct his “scheme”, which he loves to talk about. Anyone who want to stick the rest of this season out with Callahan is mistaken. Please, Mr. Osborne, make changes now. Additionally, when you fire Callahan, send Jim Rose-colored-glasses with him. Roses post game interview today was pitiful and apologetic. Fire him too, as he only enables Callahan to keep his blinders on.
October 20th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
This has simply gone on long enough. Its embarrasing and ruins my Saturday everyday to check the Nebraska score only to see them getting blown out to the likes of Missouri, Ok State and A&M. Ridiculous. Its got to change, the days when The Huskers rolled over these schools with a furosity that gave everyone in college football nightmares are far too distant a memory. I would have canned Callahan after the O State game. I can only coach teh best I can, well Mr. Callahan that is simply not good enough and a sorry excuse in deed. I was fired up going into the season, very excited about Keller and Lucky getting their deserved starting roles. That defense that they trot out there though, the “transparent” shirts is awful and almost punishing to watch. Holes from North Platte to Lincoln in the USC game and it has never got better. Then to lose a nail bitter to BALL STATE??? AT HOME??? Are you freakin kidding me??? This kind of football they may be accepting of and used to in Oakland but not here not now and not ever NOT at NEBRASKA !!!! Please Beloved ruler of the golden days Osbourne put Callahan out to pasture.
October 21st, 2007 at 5:47 am
Hunh. Seems like the triple-option worked pretty well yesterday. Good thing Big Red got rid of that for that there CALIFORNIA Offense. Time to go back to fundamentally sound football and to bring back the Triple Option.
It is morally wrong to throw the ball that many times a game. Callahan needs to go. Never should have been hired in the first place. He is a bad joke. Anyone laughing?
October 21st, 2007 at 5:44 pm
I went to UofN in the 60’s when the Deviney/Osborne kingdom ruled. I moved to Louisiana and constantly have to put up with how strong the SEC is. Especially this year with LSU.
I have been so embarrassed the past two years with the way Callahan has been trampling the Big Red into the mud.
Please, Mr. Tom, get him out of here and get back to NEBRASKA FOOTBALL. Every NCAA team used to tremble in the 60’s - 70’s - 80’s -90’s when we were on their schedule. It was just plain hard knock football back then… bring it back, please!!!
October 24th, 2007 at 7:12 pm
I lived in Lincoln from birth till age 33. My Dad had a business three blocks from the stadium on 10th street (before they turned it into a parking lot), and as a kid I spent home game Saturdays at my Dad’s business watching the sea of Red go by heading towards the games. Frank Solich was my high school weight lifting coach and one of my brothers lived 2 doors down from him before he moved to Ohio?? So my connection to Lincoln and the Huskers will always be there even though the military has since taken me else where. And my loyalty will always be there.
But DANG how long am I expected to be loyal when it seems politics may be driving the train for coaching staffing. With the money put into the stadium renovation and the football program; I need to see the dividends of that investment and on the investment of my, and thousands of others fan loyalty. For how long do I have to defend being from Nebraska when asked what’s going on with our football program? Saying were in a transition period is beyond getting old, it’s getting down right embarrassing! How long do we have to endure this transition period. “Git R Done” already!
October 25th, 2007 at 2:36 pm
Remember 62-36? I do. Thats why Solich was fired
October 26th, 2007 at 4:56 am
62 to 36 was not that bad of a game , I saw it. We through 36 points at them and the defense just didn’t have the legs that day. That is no knock against Solich! WE finished the year 11-2 , 11-2!!! And you are saying Solich was fired for THAT!?!?!!??? WE finished the year in the TOP 10!! And Solich was fired for that?? Do you even realize how assine that sounds, Gary Barnett? I haven’t read this entire thread , just coming in at the end.. But, in case you didn’t catch this here the last 4 to 5 years , Solich was one of the winningest coaches in NU history, and was fired for one man’s ego! That man being Steve Pederson. Solich was with the program as a player and coach for over 36 years, and you dismiss him saying he was fired for a 62-36 game (26 points) at the end of a 11-2 season?? You’re nuts.

Right on, Fred! Solich compiled an impressive 58-19 record over 6 years, 5 AP Top 20 finishes, and 3 Top 10 finishes, plus a National Championship game. Loserhan has amassed 19 losses in 3+ years, and will probably have an embarassing record (close to .500) by the time this season is over. BC’s not only a lame duck coach, he’s just plain lame! And to think, what an awful shame it is that the Cornhuskers football program gave up on TO’s hand-picked successor and ostracized so many true Huskers for the pathetic ego’s of SP and BC and their horrible on-the-field and off-the-field performances. By the way, “Gary Barnett”, “Frank Solich” and other “names” have been posting here lately to get us riled up, Fred. Perhaps Administrator can identify them (or him) through the provided e-mail address? There’s no need to hide behind celebrity masks, we’re all friends here. Even input from foes is welcomed!

Callahan must go! As an unfortunate soul who calls himself an Oakland Raiders fan, you can imagine my chagrin when I found out that the poor coach that dismantled my favorite NFL team would soon dismantle my favorite sport of all, Nebraska football!!! The man doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body, and his inability to motivate coupled with his troubling knack for excusing losses away to “we strive and strive” is getting old.
As to the comments about Solich: You need to check yourself, buddy. Solich was fired for b.s. political reasons and had nothing to do with the man’s ability to lead a winning team.
Go Big Red! — without Callahan!

WoW!!! It’s 10 o’clock on Friday night. Did anybody else just hear that pep talk that Lou Holtz gave on ESPN 2? He gave a speech as if he was the head coach of Nebraska, inside the locker room before the game. It gave me goose bumps! That was Awsome! It made me want to strap on a set of pads and go fight for the pride of Nebraska! Nice job Lou.
Maybe somebody will throw it on You Tube if ya missed it.

It looks as if everybody may get their wish. The next four years of his contract might be bought out. The next three games may be his last.

A local charter airline pilot that my brother works with said he had flown Bo P. into Lincoln within the last few weeks…maybe there’s a chance?

It could be worse: You could be Notre Dame!
November 3rd, 2007 at 7:51 pm
Like Notre Dame, I have to ask all of you…Do you really think Nebraska is relevant anymore…I mean most of your talent has to come from Texas and your location ain’t exactly glamorous. How’s your state’s high school football…never hear about speed coming out of Nebraska high schools. As ND has shown, history is yesterday and the only thing that matters is the present…like that TV commercial with Woods and Federer…yeah Nebraska you won a lot of games in the 70’s and early 80’s but that was a generation ago…the game has passed you by! GO BUCKS!
November 3rd, 2007 at 9:13 pm
I love watching Nebraska lose … you guys are overrated every year and play in a crappy conference. Other than the 1995 Huskers under Tom Osborne (which was a great football team) … all Husker teams are vastly overrated and as pathetic as the 2007 Notre Dame team. Watching both teams gives me gas … an overwhelming urge to take a dump overcomes me when I have to watch Nebraska and Notre Dame … two OVERRATED programs. R.I.P. …. your days of glory are over
November 3rd, 2007 at 10:10 pm
-Fatten up and bulk of the Nebraska high school boys for lineman positions.
-Steal the speed players from Texas.
-Recruit a national top 10 pro-style QB
-Hire Kansas’ coach.
which will lead to
-7 win season next year (be thankful for it too, not snobby)
-bowl game
-reenergized fan base

Hey Gary Barnett, yeah, I remember 62-36. That was sure a whole lot better than yesterday. Heck, that is starting to look like Glory Days compared to yesterday. Yesterday made me nostalgic for the less humiliating Frank Solich tenure. You really think this is better?
November 4th, 2007 at 8:20 am
@ College Football Fan
Overated conferance? 3 teams from the Big 12 are in the top 10, including 2 from the north. The Big 12 is clearly the 3rd best conferance in the country. I mean really, the ACC, Big East, The Big 10? Those conferances do not stack up. This is shaping out to be the same situation that Oklahoma had. They tried and failed with a coach after Switzer left, the they hired a young defensive coordinator on the rise. That’s exactly what were doing!
November 4th, 2007 at 9:51 am
nice post college football wank, you’re clearly an idiot and mad at Nebraska for all of our winning championships and bowl games and records, minus the shmuck coaches now I’d still take Nebraska over any of your teams!
November 4th, 2007 at 10:56 am
Bill hasn’t done anything to improve this program. He is stuck on one type of play that is it. Today’s College football isn’t ment to be sisafied. And that is what Bill has done. We can’t send a defense onto the field with the fastest play barely running a 5.0, as well as a quarterback that can’t run. It isn’t hard to notice your team isn’t working and you should change it up a bit. Take a chance. Here I got any idea, start all freshman players. At least they want to be there and play football…
November 4th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
I stated before Callahan was hired that he was a big mistake. And I stated Callahan would destroy the program. Callahan was and is a misfit and has been since day one. Not only should Callahan be terminated at once … like today, but so should those who have supported him. Those folks have injected a cancer into the Nebraska program and must be exorcised as well.
November 4th, 2007 at 2:31 pm
fire callahan let tom osborne finish the season as coach. Bring nebraska back to were it should be. Tom has the respect of every nebraska fan and player. As a lifelong fan i think having Tom coach and getting us to a bowl is just what we all need to turn this around.
November 4th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
It’s not embarassing to lose, but it is embarassing how they are losing. The west coast offense is yesterday’s news and the spread offense is the new thing to contend with. I would suggest hiring Paul Johnson away from Navy, reinstating the option and recruiting the horses necessary to run it. That was the only problem with the option is when the 2001 title game came around it was apparent we didn’t have the horses in place to run it with domination. It was a big disadvantage to other teams that would play defense against pro set or west coast type offenses throughout the year then have 1 week to get ready for Nebraska and the option. Either way we still need to “Restore the Order” and it starts with relieving Bill Callahan of his duties and getting someone else in place that will bleed for Nebraska. Only then will you see the “Power of Red” return.
November 4th, 2007 at 4:57 pm
One word discribes Bill Callahan Loser!!!!! you messed us up Bill how do you feel. It took us a century to build this program and you messed it up in 4 years. You should go. I feel sorry for all the senior players on our team that could have left last year and got a good NFL team to go to and now they stayed for they’re senior year and now what they are going to be 4 or 5 round picks in the draft. And the recruits there proabily going to a diffrent college now. Have Fun leaving.
November 4th, 2007 at 9:50 pm
Bill Clahan is not a bad person. He is not a bad salesman either. He sold NU to dozens of student athlets over the last 5 years to give us this… The recruits and talent he has brought on, are beyond what we have ever had as a team. The problem however, seems to be that we are not developing that talent deep enough to survive injury and adversity. On top of rumored 1padded practice a week, what are we doing to truly be prepared mentally?
I credit those of you who desire to give callahan yet another shot…
Being in sales myself, I am to often familiar with the saying, the numbers dont lie. There is no need to recap.
Leave the emotion out and realize that this is a business. It is the business of devoloping young kids into all americans. It is a business ofgenerating revenue for the school so other student athletes have facilities to use. It is a business that pays for halls, libraries, dorms, and lots of other things. The brutal reality: Bill has not performed to his preconcieved commitment.
Always bleeding red…
November 4th, 2007 at 10:19 pm
Bill is a fraud! He may not be a bad man, but he is a horrible coach! I don’t know what kind of sales you are in, but if you beleive that Bill has done a great job at selling this crap to us I hope I never have to deal with you. His so called talent that he has brought in, you know, all the 4 and 5 stars, don’t mean Jack! Take a look at the Kansas roster and let me know how many stars you find by all of their players. Not many! Stars don’t make you a great football player. Bill is a idiot, and what he sold us is junk! To me, that makes him a bad man. Go away Bill and never come back!
This is Husker Football!!! You never leave the emotion out!!! Thats a huge part of the problem!!! Where the hell is all of the emotion? If you are that worried about the business end of football then you should be the one screaming the most about getting rid of BC. The games on national tv are fading, pay perview doesn’t want us, money for bowl games is gone, sale of Husker gear are down, and big name donor’s are leaving and the list can go on!! If you beleive that Husker football is more of a business then it is A way of life, Pride and Respect for the whole state of Nebraska then you my friend are no Husker fan!
Get rid of Bill now!!! The only other shot that BC deserves is one out of a cannon into the ocean!
November 5th, 2007 at 2:08 pm
Fire Callahan & his Sidekick! IF we wanted a “West Coast Offense” we would move to California. Let him read his “New York Times” in NY.
Defense Defense Defense - GO Blackshirts!
November 6th, 2007 at 7:38 am
I am not a Nebraska fan, in fact I am a diehard Notre Dame fan, so I feel everyone’s pain….I say Nebraska needs to bring back the power I and wishbone
November 7th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
I feel for all of you Nebraska fans I really do. I am from Kansas and I cannot really say I am a diehard Kansas or Kansas State Fan but from time to time I listen to Nebraska radio stations…..BC needs to go and FAST! It’s sad to hear him talk….sounds like he doesn’t give a damn what happens and not concerned about his job…..hell no…he will be the richest non employed guy around….well next to Charlie Weis!
November 8th, 2007 at 3:19 pm
Please send Callahan on his way as soon as possible. He has done more damage to NU football than ever before. Coach denial needs to find a new occupation. TAKE THE MONEY AND GO!!! NOW!!! Husker fans need hope for a better tommorow!
November 12th, 2007 at 7:17 am
So Bill’s team beat the Mildcats. Big deal? This used to be the only game I cared about and while I am pleased with the win as I am held captive behind enemy lines here in Kansas, I say to you “Big Deal” so you beat the worst team other than Baylor in the big 12. This had better not save your job. What happens if we beat Colorado and go to a bowl game? Will this season be considered a success? Crazy as it sounds Bill may save his ass yet. I hate to be that fan, but I alomost hope we lose to the hated Buffalos. Bill, just do the honorable thing, win or lose after Colorado, you need to step down, you need to be a man and take blame for the horrible job you have done and take the blame for ruining yet another football program ie. Oakland. YOU SUCK BILL!
November 12th, 2007 at 3:09 pm
Billy isn’t going to be here next year. Even if he beat’s the Buff’s there will be somebody else coaching the bowl game. It’s a done deal. To many people have been slipping up lately and keep saying “new coaching staff”. No worries my friend, all is good in HuskerLand.
November 14th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
Bill came into this program with little to speak of in terms of a proven track record worthy of Nebraska. I did not like this guy when they announced his placement, but I was willing to give him a shot. Four years and the blame is his. He has his recruits. He has had four years to groom this program the way he wants it. Sorry, Bill is just not Nebraska calliber. He cannot adjust, and as far as his West Coast offense, the concept is fine, but why in the world did he practically eliminate our long-standing secret weapon (that was not so secret), the blackshirt defense? There are so many holes in that line a high-school freshman would have a good shot at getting through! If a passing game could be developed, all the better, but I say bring back the defense! Amen to ridding the program of Petersen. I said that when they gave Solich the ax!
November 14th, 2007 at 2:49 pm
Sorry, Guess I have been bit behind the times. Read this…very happy news indeed. The sun will shine again!

to compare Callahan to Osborne is just stupid. for one thing, Osborne never lost more than 3 games in a single season, Callahan is yet to lose less then 4. Osborne took us to 25 bowl games in 25 years, Callahan may take us to two in 4. yeah him.
Callahan inherited a goo team form Solich and terned it into one of the worst in the nation. Osborne inherited a good team from Devany and ran with it. people who wanted Osborne fired were stupid, nay, idiots, but there really was no real reason to do it, Callahan is a different story. tell me, what has he done over the last 4 year to make you think he can do better. he won the big 12 north/ big deal, the big 12 north has been the worse division in football for the last 4 years. come on.
