The 5-foot-6, 195-pound Ross has served as an offensive leader since his emergence late in 2003. He rushed for 1,102 yards last year, playing through a painful toe injury, and will enter the season opener Sept. 3 as the starter among a deep but young group of backs.

“He is a great representative of what Husker football is all about,” Callahan said. “He is responsible, accountable and great off the field with teammates. He is a guy that you would love to follow.”

Callahan described Bullocks as the “ultimate leader by example.” His twin brother, Josh, left Nebraska one year early after serving as an NU captain last season. The Bullocks name joins a prestigious list that includes Peter, Wistrom, Wiegert, Keeler and Kelsay as brother combos to captain the Huskers.

Daniel Bullocks, 6-2 and 210 pounds, intercepted a team-high five passes last season and totaled 58 tackles in his first season as a full-time starter.

“He has a strong personality and a deep, deep passion for Husker football,” Callahan said. “He is the kind of guy you want backing you up. He’ll do anything it takes to win and will get that out of his teammates.”
